I bought one of these obd2 Bluetooth thingys to use with the torque app on my dasaita headunit.
EB488E5A-6499-433F-A843-074156EEDC99.jpgTrying to get the app set up, but can’t seem to get transmission temperature to show. Anyone have any tips on how to get this working?

    ED7C9662-A781-4272-BF62-ED558FB8781E.jpg

what am I doing wrong? Or can I not get transmission temperature on Torque with my 2019?
    Thanks.

also do you guys leave this obd2 plugged in all the time? Will it drain battery if not removed?

Here are the pid’s i used. You need to enter as custom pid. Mine is a 2014, assuming will work. If i remember right i had to close the app after entering it to get them to work, but they did.

I have OBD fusion and purchased the Toyota PID pack for it. Added a bunch of stuff that i dont use. I only use coolant temp, oil temp, tranny temp, torq conv temp, atf degredation counter, and battery. Doesnt show me the pid codes to program into torque though.

So do these pids work on the 2019 TRD Pro? Which one is the torque converter temp and which one is the transmission pan temp?

i am guessing this will work for any current 2nd gen tundra since nothing has really changed on the motor/transmission since the 2nd gen came out in 2009?

The one including 'B' = trans pan temp, 'D' = trans torque converter temp....

The software and ecus are different between 2nd and 3rd but there are different pids used so 2nd gen isn't a problem.

    Not enough....
I need to go test out these custom PIDs. Thanks for the code @buffaluphagus !!

I use torque on my turbo GTO and watch oil pressure and temp like a hawk. I also have alarms set in case oil pressure drops as I'm doing a pull. It's impossible to keep your eyes on the road, and the boost gauge, and the AFR gauge, and oil pressure, and tachometer lol

you do realize we are still on the 2nd gen tundra. 3rd gen hasnt come out yet.

    2nd gen is from 20092007-present.

While I agree at a high level with what you're saying, there's a few flaws in your logic. First being your years are off, it should be 2007 :D second being, while the trucks haven't mechanically changed they have been tweaked electrically so the codes may not be the exact same. Are they essentially the same truck and generation? Yes, but there's still differences where the PIDs may not be the same throughout the life of this specific platform.

i edited it to 2007 while you were quoting me. lol.

i am pretty sure the pids havent changed since its still the same gen tundra. adding new features just adds new pids, it doesnt remove exisiting pids. the only time pids change is if you completely change major items like the engine/transmission. good example is the 2nd gen tacoma vs the 3rd gen. the pids completely changed

this pid works for the 5th gen 4runner, 2nd gen tacoma and 2nd gen tundra MY 2007-2021 (edited years of 2nd gen tundra since people confuse 2014+ as 3rd gen when it isnt)

    Code:
    5TH GEN 4RUNNER
    2ND GEN TACOMA
    2ND GEN TUNDRA (MY 2007-2021)

    PID: 2182
Long Name : Transmission Fluid Pan Temperature
    Short Name : TT-Pan
    Min Value: -40
    Max Value: 350
    Scale Factor: 1
    Unit Type: F
    Equation: ((((A * 256) + B ) * (7/100)-400)/10)

    PID: 2182
Long Name : Transmission Fluid Converter Temperature
    Short Name : TT-Conv
    Min Value: -40
    Max Value: 350
    Scale Factor: 1
    Unit Type: F
    Equation: ((((C * 256) + D ) * (7/100)-400)/10)

this pid only works for the 3rd gen tacoma since engine/trans completely changed

    Code:
2016 TOYOTA TACOMA TORQUE PIDS TT TEMPS

    PID: 221627
Long Name: Transmission Fluid Pan Temperature
    Short Name: TF1 (pan)
    Minimum Value: -40
    Maximum Value: 350
Scale Factor: x1 (do not change)
    Unit Type: F
    Equation: (A*459/255)+(B*1.6/255)-40
    OBD Header: 701
    Diagnostic start command: (leave blank)
    Diagnostic stop command: (leave blank)
Overrides PID: Does not override any PID

    PID: 221628
Long Name: Transmission Fluid Post-Converter Temperature
    Short Name: TF2 (conv)
    Minimum Value: -40
    Maximum Value: 350
Scale Factor: x1 (do not change)
    Unit Type: F
    Equation: (A*459/255)+(B*1.6/255)-40
    OBD Header: 701
    Diagnostic start command: (leave blank)
    Diagnostic stop command: (leave blank)
Overrides PID: Does not override any PID

edit: cleaned up the old pid entry to be more readable.

Thanks for posting this! Just found it & it worked! I just need to ask, is the first one the Tranny fluid & the second the t/c temp?

I dont recall but trust me, once you start using it you can tell. Pan temps change quickly and are higher than pan temp when the converter unlocks.

Thanks all for the instructions above. Have a 2021 Platinum. Here is my reading on Torque converter and pan temps with a short uphill freeway test run towing 5000 lb dry double axle toy hauler.

Loaded weight will be about 8000 lbs which I tow to the desert in Socal about 8 times a year and otherwise, very minimal towing. The grade coming back home is going to put the truck to work for sure.

As we know, 2021 does not have the external trans cooler so I am evaluating whether to get one or not.

-TC got up to just under 250 F
-Pan got up to 227 F
-Coolant didn't go over 205 F if I recall correctly

Does it look like I have these gauges set correctly?

Does this pattern reflect what you guys are seeing at the TC vs pan?

Seeing other videos of before and after adding a trans cooler to a 2019+, it looks like the cooler brings these related temps down at least 20 degrees F. Anyone have recent experience with before and after adding an external cooler?

I have a ‘21 Pro, using the exact same two PID’s on my Torque app I can only get an actual reading from the TC outlet. The pan temp equation tests out correctly but the result always shows 0.0. I’ve re booted the app but stil only get readings on TC outlet. Did you have to do anything different for that on your ‘21? Very confused.

I had trouble with the codes on the Torque app and got tired of messing with it so I just went with Car Scanner, used the same codes and they worked after a reboot.

Curious? Is there any documentation concerning what each of the variables, such as a, b, c, d, etc are representing in the custom pid mathematical formulations?

    thx?
