Non JBL Speaker/Amp Install - Do I have everything I need?

In about a week or so I'll have all my speakers and materials delivered. I want to make sure I have everything I need to knock it out and not get hung up. I have a NON JBL entune nav headunit. I wanted to knock out the door speakers first and then do dash speakers sometime down the road (looking at tech12 kits) and a sub depending how all this sounds (wife killed my original budget lol). I've seen conflicting info as I've been pouring over threads and want to make sure I'm going about this correctly. The more I read the more confused I've become.

Based on what I have purchased below:
Do I HAVE to have a processor (I know it would sound better with but how bad without)?
Does the stock wiring only send a mid signal to the front doors and the highs to the dash speakers? (I want my tweeters in the sail panels as indicated below)
Are the dash speakers tweeters? Or full range with low signal blockers installed?
Do I need LOC's?

Looks like a good start. Im not sure what year truck you have. I have the "JBL" system be glad you dont have that to deal with. I wish I did my audio upgrade sooner but my budget would not allow. Now im paid off and let the mods roll.

all the folks who installed that amp said it didn’t need additional power. As I understand it these class d amps are supposed to be very efficient.

Got the amp installed tonight. Sounds night and day without even upgrading the speakers!

I guess its a little too late but not understanding the power of the amp 45 x 4 vs the speakers, 70 and 75. Looks like the amp is too small. I have always thought that the amp should give enough juice to move the speakers.

 

I had always thought that getting the numbers as close as posible was the most optimum. I have the same thing going on though. I bought my cresendo sub @ 1800 watts and when researching amps they (cresendo) recommended a 1500 watt amp. Maybe it matters less at higher wattage...

 

You know you should check RMS numbers right? And not max output!

 

That is rms. Sub is cresendo contralto 10". Amp is cresendo symphony s1 monoblock.

 

Im just saying because its looks like its unbalanced. Depending on your type of music and how you like listen to it, and following professional guidelines, you should be no more than 20% more on the subwoofer than the sum of the other speakers. For example if its 50-50, you should have (4) speakers of 100 and one sub of 400 or 2 of 200. You can move this numbers depending on your listening taste. Otherwise you will have too much bass, no mids and no tweeter. Again all depends on how you want to listen to your music. It just caught my attention. Don't forget that Alpine amp is way too small to move 290 watts. It can only move 180 watts at 4 ohms. You need to move 290W.

 

I dont think i said alpine cause i dont have an alpine amp. My 4 channel is a rainbow germanium. It s 4 x 140 watts @ 2 ohms. Im not lacking in that respect. I just have a lot of draw on the electrical system. I need to do something to improve it. And as far as my sub isnt that what a bass knob is for?

I have the gain all the way down and the speakers sound great. Very happy with the focals.

 

good thread, I am also getting ready to upgrade my Non-JBL system. Changing the 4 speakers and adding an amp. Just waiting for the delivery of items. I went with Infinity and Pioneer amp. Infinity has 55 RMS and amp has 60 RMS 4 channel. I'm told that I should not need a sub and if I do, I will get a powered one to add in the future. From what I'm reading, or researching, Im told to disconnect the corner dash or not wire to the amp as it causes problems. Good luck on the build. Hoping to hear some more good advice.

What is a corner dash?

 

there are two small dash tweeters on the driver side and passenger side of your truck, well on my truck. Not sure about yours. Take a look at the corners of your front windshield.

I'm really curious as when I researched for 6x9 there are few that fit the Tundra's. Did you find a link that says these will fit? I wanted to go with 6x9 also but there was only one on Crutchfield and I didnt like them. On the site it says does not fit.

Update: I just researched the Focal website and it says it does fit. Crutchfield is very inaccurate. Had problems with them on my order because of bad advise. Had to cancel my entire order. Did not have a good experience with them.

 

Yea they fit with no problem. I put the tweeters in the sail panels and left the dash speakers alone so I had to run a bit or wire from the tweeter to the second set of terminals on the IS690Toy. They sound great with the 445U Alpine.

Head unit powers the dash speakers and amp under passenger seat powers the four doors.
For the ISC 165’s I bought adapters from ********* and they went in with no problem. Biggest issue I ran into with the speakers was the metra harnesses not connecting to the ISC 165 terminals without shaving the plastic insulation back. Caused a lot of bending on the terminals and I’m lucky one didn’t break.

 

looks good! how was the wiring to the amp? Can you take a pic of how you did the wiring? Thats the one that concerns me the most.

 

Wiring to the amp was simple. Used the harness in my original post and it was simple plug and play once connected to the alpine harness. I’ll try to get a pic tomorrow. Just get a wiring diagram for your truck to match the harness to the alpine wires. I didn’t even pull out the stock amp. Just unplugged it and mounted the alpine to the stock amp with some industrial strength Velcro.

Worst part of my install was the Siless sound mat installation. Very time consuming. Not a process I ever want to do again lol

harness makes it very simple. Didn’t have to cut any wires. Plug and play

 

Looks professional. It looks like you used the original brackets to mount the amp on. Unfortunately, I wont be able to as the Pioneer amp I'm using is a bit bigger and will need more space under the passenger seat. Enjoy the new sound system. Thanks again!

 

Eager to get started on my audio project. I should receive my TT 5-channel amp, sub, and install kit Thursday. I’ll get all of that in and then do the doors.

Was 36’ of sound deadener plenty? I ordered that amount of Dynamat, too.

Yea if you are doing all four doors, inside and outside panels, you will need the 36 sqft. I had maybe one sheet and a little extra left over and I had very little drop during the process.

If you are getting finishing tape I wouldn't buy the "sound deadening" brands. Just get a giant roll of aluminum tape on ebay or a local store. I bought the Noico tape and it ran out on the second door I did. I then bought a roll of 150 yard 2" aluminum tape on ebay for about the same price. So get around 150 yards if doing all four doors (I only used tape on the interior panels).
