I finally decided to get a bed rail system for my 2019 DC.

I read some directions on this site and watched a video on how they did it.

Problem I had was the truck was bought new from dealer with a spray on bed liner. So the holes to hold down the rails were covered.

Someone said to use a needle and hammer and tap around to find the hallow points. It was dark and I just got off work so I didn't have the patience. (Pics were taken next day with better lighting)

So I stuck the rails up using the plastic clips and made sure it was level. Then I took a tap punch to find the holes. I found them every time by hitting in the center of each hole. Plus it made a hole through the liner where I used a box cutter to open the hole slightly. I used a hex from GorillaGrip. It was nice because I could flip it over and have it at a 90 degree angle to really tighten the bolts. I thought i would break it but it held up.

There's five bolts on each side and four in the front rail. There's one hole on each end that I do not think has a hole for a bolt. I tried to use the tap punch to find one but never did. I did end up using five bolts on the side rails and four on the front one.

Got done in about an hour.

Did the bolts you installed look like the left or the right below?

I saw that as well, the issue that I'm having is that after my Line-Xing I'm 3 bolts short on the bed rail system. I figured easy fix, called the dealership had them order them in for me and got the ones on the left. Went to install them and couldn't get them to work. So I pulled out the two remaining screws on the rail that needed them and both of them looked like the ones on the right not the left, i.e. longer, no tapering etc. Just wondering if anyone has ever seen that or knows what's going on. Thanks!

I can pull the screws out and see which one I have. I have to say, when I used the punch to make a hole through the bed liner, I think it left bits of the liner in the hole. So I really had to turn the screws hard to get them in. Eventually as they went in, it got easier.

    Is that issue you're having?

For what it's worth, I just did this install a few weeks ago on my '21 DC, also with the Toyota spray in bed liner... After having to cut the bedliner off of the front tie downs/bolts to install my DECKED drawers, I was fearing the worst trying to find the holes.

As @2point5seconds stated above, just using the plastic clips to hold the rails in place and finding the center of each opening was the ticket. I used a straight pick tool that, coincidentally, was just a bit smaller than the size of the threads on a T30 bolt, so a few "reams" in and out cleared enough bed liner for the bolts to catch the threads.

I'm not 100% on which bolt style I had, but I want to say it was the A0006 as I don't remember the taper, and I remember them being somewhat longer than I thought they needed to be. That being said, my rail set was purchased through the parts department of my local dealership, so I'm not sure if there may be a discrepancy between what is provided on the new trucks vs purchasing the kit later (unless the bed rail install is simply a tech installing the kit prior to sale, I'm not sure if it counts as a dealer installed accessory).
