I am going to throw a flag on this one.

A plug in hybrid is possible but we would know details long before the truck hit the showroom. That is because the new power plant would have to undergo US, and probably Canadian, certification for its towing capacity.

Having a dual power engine the truck would have to prove it can safely tow the load on various conditions. If one of the power plants went offline, most notable if the gasoline engine stops can the electric motors safely bring the truck to a safe spot especially on a hill while towing a heavy load? This being done right now with big hybrid 18 wheeler rigs. With one engine it either tows or not. Very simple. Add two engines now you have a lot more paperwork and scrutiny. Especially since the Tundra can be a commercial vehicle from the initial design standpoint. It is not a passenger car, that has a whole set of different standards.

Once the government regulators get their hands on the truck for testing/certification all hush hush about the features go out the window. That has not happened.

That said, I say this is just some auto journalists fantasy. Not to say in the future it is not possible but I do not see it happening for the 2022 model year.
