Has anyone tried LED back up lights with success?
I tried the license plate lights, very impressive.

I changed all my lights to led. Used jdm. I will see if I can find my Amazon order. My windows are dark tinted and the backup lights are bright enough I can see a lot more. Also bright enough to let my backup camera see very well in color at night.

I changed every bulb in my Tundra with LEDs.

I've had good results with Alla Lighting LEDs found on Amazon.

Also with Sirius LEDs, some can be found on Amazon, some I had to order from the them directly.

LED Headlight, LED Fog Light, LED Exterior Light, LED Interior Light – SIRIUSLED (siriusledlights.com)

I used amber LED for the front and red LEDs for the rear.

I have diodedynamics LEDs for backup lights.
Paid over $90 for them 5 years ago.
There are cheaper options available now though..

    bqt7rnq1_b68b067c084fcb8f793bfdf91e4fa2be89d0a05d.jpg qwx6m7ri_490e1f0c8e6aff001eb1618597e53385d2e84db9.jpg

    I would avoid Headlight Revolution.
EVERY bulb I ever bought from them failed within months.
The contacts are so thin they break easily from normal vibrations of driving.
Sure they replaced them, but why have to have a spare set of bulbs for when the HR bulbs fail?

Don't forget to replace your cargo and third brake light bulbs..

I switched over to LED backups lights. You can hook up some LED pod lights to your back up's. I bought these (link below). I installed them into my rear bumper but I'm going to wire them on a separate switch so I can turn them on when I want.

Diode dynamics for all the bulbs and rigid flush mounts sr series for my reverse lights. Definitely makes a camper top way easier to deal with

I put these in about a year ago. They're crazy bright considering they just plug into the existing housing. They're so inexpensive and easy to do, it's a no brainer. Then if you find you still want more light, you can always add aux fixtures.

No. I thought I’d add them to either my wife’s Prius, or my daughter’s Matrix since they are both in the Toyota family. Oddly, neither one uses the 921 bulb. (?)
Personally, I like having spares on hand, so it works out for me.
If you’re really concerned about the cost, there are cheaper versions but I can’t vouch for their luminance level.

I put rear light pods in my bumper and they are great. They are made by NiLight (Amazon) and have held up great for almost two years now. I have a light bar up front by them as well and it’s never given me issues.

I also put in these in for reverse bulbs and in the cargo lights. They advertise 500 lumens but I don’t think they are quite that bright but they are brighter and clearer than the halogen 921’s.

Just today in my Silverado, I put these in the reverse lights and cargo lights. I feel these are significantly brighter than the others in my tundra. I believe part of it is due to the lens facing out of the bulb to help focus the light.

When you wired the auxiliary pods in what direction did you go? Did you run a new switch and wire all the way back or did you tap into something that was already there. I have a custom bumper with light pockets and am looking to add pods for scene lighting for camping and auxiliary backup lighting. Just wondering if there’s a hack. I’m guessing you don’t really want these on every time you backup so then a new wire and switch would be a necessity.

I tapped into my trailer wire plug for the reverse pods. Keeps me from being tempted to turn em on when somebody tailgates :anonymous:

I want to know more about putting LED pods in the rear bumper!

Did you wire them to the reverse lights?
How did you cut into the bumper?

I used an Amazon dremel ($20) to cut the bumper and wired them to a separate switch. I wanted the option to run them whenever. They do have a wireless remote that offers strobe/flash and it actually works really well.

+1, the LEDs in the taillights alone just did not cut it for me. If someone is tailgating me I hit my cargo light which has LEDs. I see no need for a separate switch. If you need to turn them on while not backing up just turn key on, set brake, and put shifter in reverse.

I wired my BD S2 Pro flush mount for both. They come on in reverse or with a switch. I didn't add a diode, so the reverse lights and backup camera come on with the switch also. For the trigger I ran to the reverse light. Yes I have a second gen, but it has wires.

If you're asking me, no. I only want to see when backing up after dark. I only use them from the switch when I need light, such as night fishing on the beach. Casting light on the water brings bait fish in, which in turn brings other fish, or so the theory goes.
I've only turned them on a couple of times while driving, with no one behind me, to see what an anytime rear camera looks like. Made me a little queasy.
