So what is the weight going to be?

With all of this Tundra shortage talk, I looked up my trucks value. With a clean retail approaching $70k, I started thinking that it might be time to sell. The interesting thing that came up when looking for a replacement is the curb weight of the big three. Most of them are at or under 5000 pounds for the curb weight. No wonder their payloads and towing capabilities are more than Toyota.

What do you think will be the curb weight of the new Tundra?

 

I would guess around the ~5000lbs estimate unless the vehicle they roll out is made of some new composite lightweight materials. It is possible Toyota has an ace up their sleeve. If they do they are pretty tight lipped about it.

 

I did hear a couple reported rumors. Could be true might not be true.

V6 will cut a couple hundred pounds vs V8,
Carbon bed (like GMC) will cut 25% weight of that to reduce 70 pounds.
Those two things alone will be saving almost 300 #.

 

They can throw an electric motor on the front axle which could save some weight. Aluminum body panels? They know how to do hybrids, I wouldn’t make a non-hybrid model???
