I am looking into straight piping my 01' 4.7 V8 Tundra and was wondering if anyone has an estimate of the cost of it. I live in California, more in the Sacramento area, and am wondering if anyone in or around the area has had any sort of muffler/exhaust work done and how much it cost them.

Please don't. Unless it's towed to a track/offroad facility only.

    Your hearing will thank you.

I carried a bag of earplugs in my 1.6l & 2.0l cars to drive them more than half an hour. And thats with a car and some kind of muffler.

So i had an 05 tundra before and i had the muffler cut out and replaced with pipe. It is much quieter than you think. I was only 21 at the time so i did like the noise, but as long as you have the full tailpipe, it had a little resonator in the stock pipe and it really was a nice setup.

To have a shop cut out the muffler and weld in about 3 feet of pipe is under $100

I would at minimum leave the resonator on. It doesn't hurt performance or sound. Its only effective up to around 2300 rpm, after that it does nothing. Your cruising speeds will be easier on you.

I'm biased to the sound of little pissed off beetles. This one is surprisingly quick considering its barely a 1.8 liter

If you leave the full OE tailpipe on the 4.7 it sounds better than a shortened pipe

My coworker who also drives a 1st gen Tundra had both of his cats chopped off in the parking lot. Yes, both. He had a random shop weld in some pipes for less than $200.

He says he gets more torque off the line. Extra bit of "skrrt."

The first one sounded great, 2nd one was loud just to be loud. There's a difference between good loud, and loud just to be obnoxious. I prefer the first. My SHO is probably around 95 dB, and it's loud enough, but sounds like raspy ass with its generic turbo mufflers on a transverse v6.
