Does anyone know if Toyota license plate screw threads are generally the same size and what the thread measurements are? I want to order some true security screws. My daughters plate was stolen from her 2006 4Runner last night while she was at work. F'n thieves will take anything.

I use Scrwd for a lot of things in a variety of sizes. They do have a 1/4” but the thread pitch is different from a standard license plate screw. It may work if you put a new little square plastic fastener and let it self thread.

I may do that. I'll have to look at it. Some have the plastic inserts and some are metal threaded.

Take one out and take it to your local Autozone. At least ours has a way to tell the thread size and pitch.

Ah. I could check one of mine tomorrow, but mine's a 2018. I'll do that, though, if it'll help.

I bought it and put a license plate on it in August, but danged if I can remember if it was a m6 x 1 or a course screw.

Weird how I thought I quoted your post, and it quoted mine. Anyway, I'll go pull one this morning and see what size a 2018 is unless someone volunteers to check the proper year.

My ‘17 used standard 1/4-14-3/4" screws. I switched 2 of them out for LED light screws which were 1/4” but a different thread pitch. They still went in. A bit snug but holds.

My '18 uses the shown screw. It's a 6mm screw (M6). The pitch is finer than anything I have in my nut jar, so I'm thinking it's an M6 x .75. It's approximately 17mm long from the point to the washer.

I'd make a run to Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and find any length M6 x .75 just to prove the diameter and pitch before proceeding. There's always room in the bolt jar for more :)

The nuts are plastic, and a 1/4", being a tad larger, would probably thread themselves in.

BTW, the ruler included for scale is a metric in MMs.

I think it all depends on the dealer selling the truck. My dealer installed the plates including the front plate mount.
