Has anyone opened a set of tail lights for the 14-21? I am looking into a possible project for the HotTails setup and was wondering if anyone has pictures of the housings opened up. I'll snap some pictures of what I am thinking of after the storms pass. @memario1214

I've got a couple sets open, but they're at paint at the moment... Have another one here that I am kicking around doing too. I know that @TRDFerguson opened his once upon a time so he might have snapped some shots.

So here is what I was thinking but not sure if it can be done. With the Hottails, if you look at the lights from the side when they are on, you will see the lower light has a notched out area that allows you to see it. I was wondering if there was a way to mount a 194 socket in the same area for the upper half but it doesn't have that notched out area. I don't knownif there is enough depth between the lens and the interior housing itself. Just a crazy idea that I had.

Referencing one of @TRDFerguson pics, you can see the cut out area that I am referring too. A notch in the top section would be perfect of there was a clean way of doing it.

I’m trying to picture it but not sure which notch you’re talking about

    where are you thinking ?

    Edit: I see now

not enough room to work with in that cut area to mount that socket. I’ve cut up taillights on my Tacoma that had a 194 reverse socket to mount a 7440 / 7443 socket. The adaptor alone would take up more room than the size socket itself depending if you did a flush mount or offset mount.

Thanks! You can’t bake them like headlights - only way is to cut them open. A dremel with a cutting disc makes pretty quick, but messy, work of it though.

Yeah, get a second set just in case things go sideways lol. I sealed them with some plastic weld in a few spots and black silicone all the way around. My first set ended up leaking from some shrinkage as the caulk cured, but once they dried out and I touched up the edges, didn’t have a problem. My second set I did worked out a little better, no issues on those.
