I bought my Tundra back in December 2017 and immediately replaced the stock head unit with the cheapest one from a known brand at the time that did Apple CarPlay.

Now, my head unit kinda annoys me. It drops off/restarts occasionally, which is always tight when on a road trip.. I’ve taken exits before, the head unit loses connection, and I gotta slow down and grab my phone to find out where to go… not ideal.

I wouldn’t mind a bigger screen, but I don’t want one of the “Tesla” screens.

If I can connect it to my OBD2 reader that’s a major plus.

    here’s what I currently have:

The 1057 is the one I’m looking at for my 2013 Limited. I had a lot of criteria and Crutchfield narrowed it down to three. I want HU to handle another camera so I can have a front camera too. I want the 360 view and also have a little horse trailer. I didn’t see an option for the OBD reader, but maybe their customer service have that info. I’m asking for input on this thread too. I’ve asked before, but I’ve never followed thru before. My car guy says he can do it for me, and I will buy any harness or tool necessary to make it as simple as possible. Also want to put a trailer cam in my trailer, wired or not.

It is the 1057, the unit above but all Kenwood models similar to these are able to get OBD2 data.

Pioneer. Minor mod, and you can sink it into the dash.

Y'all using iDatalink for OBD interface? I have iDatalink with Kenwood in my Ferd but only Kenwood in my 05 DC.

Yes, I’m using the iDatalink Maestro RR. I had to use it to retain steering wheel controls in my 2021. As a bonus it gave me the OBD2 functionality. I wasn’t really looking for it, but since it’s there I may as well use it.

Surprisingly, I didn’t even need to connect to the OBD2 port. The connection must already be there in the head unit wiring harness.

Exact same scenario with my Ferd. RR there as well. Wanted to retain steering controls, factory reverse camera and most importantly, the giant rotary volume control knob on the dash. LOL. I've peeked at the OBD stuff that is avail on the Kenwood but the interface is old and janky looking so I don't bother with it.

Maybe, years from now perhaps, aftermarket radio manufacturers will hire folks that can design more modern and clean looking interfaces for their headunits. Some look downright awful still.

Setting up the gauges on my Kenwood was a PITA. It’s not at all intuitive, and the users manual isn’t much help.

I would go through and set it all up, and then once I exited to another screen and went back, my layout was gone, replaced with a bunch of random gauges.

I finally got it to “stick” by not only selecting the gauge I wanted in each position, but setting the min and max to be displayed for each, as well as any other parameter such as peak (which I assume is like a redline.) And in case it happens again I snapped a quick picture so I could restore it easily if it does it again, but so far it’s been ok for a couple weeks.

Which Pioneer model is that? And what mod to sink it into dash? Also can you get OBD2 gauges on it?
