Yes. Parking assist. It has its own ECU and speaks directly to the instrument cluster.
BSM/RCTA communicates over CANBUS as well as dedicated signals back to several different components including the ECU.

BSM/RCTA has been fairly straight forward to add. Parking assist has been a pain

Louder because the amp now only drives the L + R. The centre speaker had a mono combination of L+R. I think.

I always wondered if BSM was just a programming thing. of course with the indicator lights needed.

Oh I like that a lot. Added to my list. Thanks

Edit: just watched the install video. Thinking out loud, instead of removing all the stuff to have access to drill the holes, I thought about bonding the bottom bracket to the dash. I work in aerospace and have access to some heavy duty stuff.

Even so, lots of guys pull them, put the dash mat back in upon selling the truck and resell the entire setup on here.

I've got one of the older rago plates sitting in the shop if you are interested. I'd let it go pretty cheap.

It’s not so much a programming thing - you need the BSM radar units that are mounted in the bumper (one on each side), the indicator lights, and a buzzer for the RCTA. If all those components are installed and wired up correctly, then the system will “just work” (aside from calibration and alignment of the radar units). You go into the instrument cluster settings and turn it on.

Parking assist, so far, requires the sensors, the switch, a dedicated ECU, and the correct part number instrument cluster.

I'm in Canada and have a 2020 TRD Sport DC. I have parking sensors and the RCTA already. I believe that the BSM came with the TRD Sport Premium package. So oem mirrors with BSM indicators.
I thought the BSM used the parking sensors for BSM? So I figure I only need the mirrors and maybe a software update?

You could do that. I did the Rago mount with the ics reinforcement plate.

They sound fantastic IMO. And I agree on why it's louder without the center, it's what I was thinking too.

Install was a breeze. Bonding it to the dash would work too. It all depends on how heavy of stuff you want to mount. I did reinforce it with fender washers.

RCTA (rear cross traffic alert) AND BSM use dedicated radar units that are tucked inside the outboard corners of the resin rear bumpers. It changes the pattern and distance of the radar that it sends out based on whether you are in drive (BSM) or reverse (RCTA). If it detects something coming across while the truck is in reverse, it lights up the indicators in the mirrors and sounds a warning buzzer located in the C-pillar on the driver's side. If it senses something alongside while in drive it lights up the appropriate mirror. If you turn on your blinker to the side it is lit up on in BSM, it will flash that BSM light, but will not make a sound.

Parking Assist is using the four (in the rear) or two (in the front) visible round sensors to detect objects at very close range and then display that approximate distance (and sound an alert) in the instrument cluster display.

The two systems are entirely separate. Parking assist is available with both resin and chrome bumpers because the sensors are exposed and only work at very short range. BSM/RCTA is only available with resin bumpers because the radar will not work correctly through the steel/chrome bumper shell.

I’m considering adding this to my truck. Saw your write up. I’ll probably do it with the tow mirrors as well. Just need to buy the parts and find the time! Seems pretty easy aside from wiring it all up!

Today I just got back from a winter camping trip in the mountains of WV. Nothing refreshes you like tent camping in 15* weather lol! First trip with my Tundra and it handled the snowy mountain roads just fine.

Looking at these. These with 275/70/17 all terrains like the Toyo AT3 is about $2800 for the package with TPMS sensors from CustomOffsets. Might price the Falkens too. Not sure what offset I would need to be flush with the wheel wells.

The stock silver wheel. It will get a 3 inch lift eventually.
