So I have created this post to help out some of the newer members when it comes to the TRD Pro grille since I have assisted two members this week alone. I don't mind helping at all but feel that this info all in one spot would be beneficial as well.

There are 2 styles of the Pro grille and either one can be installed on all 14-21's.

The original design is listed for the 14-17's. This style can be mounted on any 14-21. If you have a 2018 and newer, you will need to relocate your TSS sensor with a relocation kit such as the AJT. The AJT kit is hit and miss for some users as some get errors to clean the sensor or the radar cruise disconnects randomly. Not everyone gets an error. On that note, many of us believe that the error is caused by the thickness of the cover plate. AJT does not provide any support on this. I have come up with a solution to this and I have 3 members that will be testing this on their trucks to see if it solves their errors.

    **********************************************************************************************

The newer style is listed for the 18-21's. If you install this style on the 14-17, you can use a cheap aftermarket garnish to cover the sensor mounting hole since you don't have TSS. The 18-21 requires a proper garnish for the sensor to work properly. The OEM garnish is expensive but prevents you from having to worry whether an aftermarket garnish will work or not as they are hit and miss.

Thanks for this, but I have to ask….is that little piece of Toyota garnish for the 18+ *really* more than the whole grill??? Wow.

Excellent write ups... this came up in my search for grills...

Anyway, I saw somewhere that someone 3D printed that garnish. If will see if I can find the file so it can be shared here as well. If anyone has a spare one we can DM on, i can create the file for the group as well.

Yup, that was me. This would work for a NON-TSS truck with the new gen grill. It isn't perfect but I liked how it came out:

I wonder if running the AJT bracket on a jointer which would shave it down in thickness would work?

It's more of the material than the angle. The sensor needs a special type of material to "see" through.

I don't disagree with you, I just know that you had said it was hit and miss with the non-oem garnish and from that website I know of multiple people who haven't had any issues with it throwing a code. I appreciate you putting this thread together as it can be frustrating figuring out what will and will not work with your truck.

AJT bracket is working good with my grill. It was giving me errors at first now it’s good. When it rains I get an error but it did that anyway with the stock grill.

The AJT thick cover plate is working for you? How long have you had it installed? Have you tried radar cruise yet? When I had the AJT installed, mine would freak out with cars in the other lanes. That kit is in my junk box now.

Its been on since March when I changed out the grill. Yes, radar cruise works fine. Only issue is rain, but like I said, the factory grill would do that anyway. I don't know if the sensor calibrates itself or what. I disconnected the battery when I changed everything out.

There anyone on here with a MGM who went for the 2019+ style grille? I have a 2014 Limited in MGM so I have all the chrome trim around the front including the bumper caps, mirror caps, and grille surround. Originally I was going to swap out the chrome and go full color match, but recently I’ve been conflicted on whether I want to stick with the chrome or swap it out. So I was just wondering if anyone has a MGM who swapped out the grille and the surround and some photos so I could see how it looks?

I think you are asking to see the newer Pro grille and color matched front end?

Check out this thread, should have what you want in there.

I noticed the newer style grille does not come in Barcelona Red Metallic. I just bought a 2019 Limited double cab TRD Offroad, and this is my first newb post. I did some searching but am confused. Can someone shed some light as to what I would need to install a BRM trd pro grille and bulge on my new to me Tundra? Thank you all.

In your case, you would need to order one of the newer style and have the surround painted BRM.you can get the bulge in Barcelona. I assume that your current surround and bulge are chrome?

This is correct, my current surround and bulge are chrome. That is what I thought was my answer. Thank you very much for the help. It is much appreciated. Thanks @Tundra234

I was able to get a bulge and surround painted for a hundred bucks a couple of years ago. Not too bad.

Make sure they know that it is a color change. Painting the chrome will not work well and most shops won't even attempt it.

I was actually going to buy a white OEM TRD Pro grille and have that painted. I think the white would be a better base color than black or MGM but what do you think?

That’s what I did. Simplest solution all around. You might ask a body shop if the base color makes any difference.

that is exactly what I thought this morning. I sure don't know if black or white would be a better base color. I'm thinking black might be but I will ask around some body shops today and see. I will post back with the answer(s) I get so others may also do the same if they wish. Thank you @War Machine !
