Has anyone found a comparison between the VR and JB4 tuners? Also, does anyone have a VR tuner map profile?

Can you tell a difference running a higher mix or is it just safer?

You can tell a difference, it’s safer for detention and it also boosts octane points significantly.

A difference from 91/93octane, or just from no tune? I know it boosts the octane, just curious on how much you gain by running a higher ethanol mix. JB site says something like more power from higher E content and from bigger turbos, etc..

You cannot feel a difference between e30 and e40 with the JB4 at the moment. The box doesn't modify timing tables to fully take advantage of higher E content...so its pointless going beyond E40.

You can feel the difference in the maps. Highest is map5 with an E30 mixture.

No problem mixing 91 with E85. Assuming an E10 content in that 91 octane and an actual E80 content from the E85 pump, you can then use that, plus your trucks mpg read out and last mileage since your fill up. Calculate the miles since last fill up (current miles - miles at last fill up)....divide those miles by the mpg read out in your dash....this assuming you don't have taller tires. This will give you the approximate number of gallons you will need to fill up your tank.

You can use this info to do the math for the desired blend. I personally use E85 Blend app.

    I wouldn't worry about running map 2 or 3 on 91.

Thank you eddiefromcali you really know your stuff. I really appreciate your reassurance that I can run map 2 or 3 with 91. I assume that adding some E85 will improve performance. My worry would be not knowing when the blend is entirely accurate. Do you recommend the sensor that Berger makes? You indicated that the install was easy, however watching the video it looked challenging haha

I do have the ethanol sensor kit and it was a very simple install. I feel a lot more confident mixing my fuels knowing the current blend in the tank. You can definitely get way off track if you don't know the blend you're at. Well worth the money for me since I wanted to go E40 and have E85 pumps all around me.

IMG_9056.jpg I drove around and found this selection nearby. What kinds of blends could I make with these options? How does it work with the sensor, can you see the blend evolve while you’re filling?

Just fill up with E30...no need to mix anything.

Our trucks are not flex fuel but their fuel system can handle about E45-E50, max. E30 will allow you to run any map, 0-5. You don't have to have the jb4 to run e30 but you'll get the most performance out of the truck on e30 and map 5.

No need for the sensor since the pump already sells E30....makes it VERY easy for you.

Just keep in mind that mpg will decrease as Ethanol has a lower BTU rating than gasoline. Wont drop a lot since you're essentially going from E10 to E30...but the added boost will result in lower mpg if you're having too much fun.

Thanks again Eddie, this is a big discovery for me. When everything is ready I’ll give this a try and report back! When I’m in a location without E-30 I’ll probably use 91 or 93 if I can find it, and will switch maps accordingly. The cost savings with E-30 is pretty amazing. It sounds like the mileage change will be negligible, but if it’s as much fun as I think it will be, I’m not going to care ;)

Just fill up and go. I've been on E40 for 13k miles and map 5...no issues. I do have AFE intakes and a custom exhaust but that's not needed.

I ran the equation in AI and got these numbers for gas mileage:

An E30 mixture contains 30% ethanol and 70% gasoline by volume. To calculate the expected miles per gallon (mpg) of a vehicle using an E30 mixture, we first need to determine the energy content of the mixture and then compare it to the energy content of pure gasoline.

Ethanol has an energy density of about 76,000 BTUs per gallon, while gasoline has an energy density of about 114,000 BTUs per gallon.

The energy density of the E30 mixture can be calculated as follows:

    E30 energy density = (0.30 * 76,000 BTUs/gal ethanol) + (0.70 * 114,000 BTUs/gal gasoline) E30 energy density = 22,800 BTUs/gal + 79,800 BTUs/gal E30 energy density ≈ 102,600 BTUs/gal

Now, compare the energy density of E30 to that of pure gasoline:

Energy density ratio = E30 energy density / gasoline energy density Energy density ratio ≈ 102,600 BTUs/gal / 114,000 BTUs/gal Energy density ratio ≈ 0.9 (rounded to one decimal place)

Assuming the vehicle's fuel efficiency is directly proportional to the energy content of the fuel, we can estimate its expected mpg with the E30 mixture:

Expected mpg with E30 = original mpg with pure gasoline * energy density ratio Expected mpg with E30 = 20 mpg * 0.9 Expected mpg with E30 ≈ 18 mpg

So, a vehicle that gets 20 mpg with pure gasoline can be expected to get about 18 mpg with an E30 mixture. Keep in mind that this is a rough estimate, and actual fuel efficiency may vary depending on factors such as engine type, driving conditions, and vehicle maintenance.

Im looking to getting a tuner for my 24. Seems like there are more available these days that are pretty much the same as the JB4.

Im stuck between the JB4, Racechip GTS, Stillen Trucontrol and the AFE Scorcher. Does anyone have any good info they can provide on which is best and why? They all have bluetooth with app control.

The highest octane I have around me is 91, I have a stock 23 pro, I am wondering what kind of performance can be expected from the 91 tune and I was going to add the trd air filters aswell, Trying to gauge if its worth the investment. Anyone with draggy or dyno results from a 91 tune and drop in filters?
