How to replace a broken electrical ( taillight ) connector

Hi,
Yesterday replacing my taillight bulbs I noticed the connectors were very brittle. I tried replacing bulb very gingerly but the connector still broke and now doesn’t hold the bulb.

I already searched the forum for instructions to either change the connector (preferred) or harness but didn’t have any luck. What is the best way to replace connectors? Once I remove would I need to solder the new connector?

You should be able to get a socket/pigtail for whatever bulb you need. Skip the solder and use some butt splices with adhesive. Similar to these.

You can also get the entire taillight harness from Toyota for about $50.

 

Order a new whole tail light from Amazon and run that harness. Assuming the bulb sockets are the same or at least pretty close.

If I remember right based on mine, the tail light (driver's side at least) originates at a combination connector at the bottom corner of the bed, then routes its last 12-18" up into the housing area. I'm sure you can hit the electrical section of the Toyota Parts website and find a replacement sub-harness. I doubt it's more than $50-60 and should tie you over for another 15-20 years...

 

It is separate, but mine at least are all manual splices. I am digging into that right now on the driver side to rewire my camper shell/cap/topper.
