Hey y'all, not sure if this has been asked before but I'm trying to find something for my big dog. The seats go up but there's that tool/storage under the seat making it not flat. I've tried buying multiple covers for the seat with a hard bottom or foam seat extender but he just slides around. I traded in my Ram 1500 for the Tundra and the seats just went up with a flat floorboard I could put his bed down. Anybody know of anything i can buy that will make it flat so i can put his bed down? Thanks!

That would totally work if I wanted to do a seat delete. He's almost 9 and 130 pounds with an already sore leg so it makes it tough. So far we haven't found anything that will work. Our next step is to try to build something but we'd rather not if there's a product out there.

I know you're looking to just do a purchase. However, you're best and probably fastest resolution is to cut out a plywood platform for the area you're wanting to have your dog on. You'll need to build a few "legs" to elevate the platform just enough to smooth out your humps, obstacles, etc... then cover the surface w/a 1/2" or 3/4" stall mat, and your pup will have a secure, non-slippery, non-destructible area to travel/rest on.

Another benefit about doing it custom like this is that you'll be able to prevent any gaps between the platform and upholstery which can easily trap arms/paws (especially with an older pup). If it's elevated high enough you can have storage underneath.

Finally, if you have zero interest in doing this yourself, just take your truck to a car audio place that builds custom boxes, etc. and they'll be able to hook you up

I have something similar for my two dogs, one is 105 lbs and the other is 80 lbs. Works pretty good.

I’m working on a plywood platform to make a flat area for the dog when the back seats are flipped up. I only have a picture of my car board template at the moment but I’m about halfway done. I’ll post more when I make more progress this weekend.

The end goal is a carpet covered platform cut into the same 60/40 split as the seats so I still have flexibility to use the backseat with a dog. It will be covered in outdoor carpet and I might put in access hatches to reach the under seat storage.

Progress on my dog platform this afternoon. I’m going to cut it 60/40 to match the seats so it’s 1) easier to put in/take out and 2) gives flexibility for carrying dogs and more than 2 people. Before carpeting I still need to figure out a rear support in the center and I’d like to cut two hatches to be able to access the storage underneath. To be continued…

Hatches cut and framed underneath, 60/40 split cut, and covered in cheap yoga mat for some cushion. Wrapping with indoor/outdoor carpet then it’ll be done.

    That’s pretty damn good!

If I were to add to your design, I would use these anti fatigue squares or something similar. Lots more cushion than mats for long hauls. I lined the cage in the police car for my k9 with them and I don’t hear one complaint from back there haha

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking for inspiration to make something for our dogs too. As mentioned above, I considered an inflatable bed.

I find that an important attribute is for it to be a rough surface so they get good traction, especially for braking and turning.
I wanted something easy to remove as well as cheap. Thus the plywood with Costco rubber mat.
Please share what you end up with. Always looking for good ideas.

Finally finished my platform today. The whole project took way longer than expected but I’m a perfectionist so I should have known this would happen.

Made a rear support that stays in the truck and uses the factory push connectors under the seat to hold some custom aluminum tabs and keep it in place. Wrapped everything in carpet and then added pull tabs for the hatches.

Overall I’m very happy with the final product. I might add some dowels to lock the two pieces together better but we’ll see how it works for a while first.

Can you post of pic of the bottom to see how you made the hatches?

Curious on how much the platform weighs to see if it’s easily removable. I'd like to do this since our GSD head hits the headliner when he sits up on the seat.

Here’s a bottom view. It’s framed with 1x3 and then I cut reliefs where the hatch sits to allow for the carpet thickness so it’s flush on top.

I considered thicker but didn't want too much to the point that the stability would be affected. We have dog beds we throw in for long haul rides if needed. Out last dog slept on the hardwood as much as his bed so it should be fine either way.

It's not light which is one of the reasons I did the 60/40 cut. It's much more manageable now. With the whole thing complete finally, it's pretty easy for flip up then support and pull it out without hitting anything.

Thanks! The seats cannot flip all the way down as they are designed to rest on top of the under seat storage. I suppose you could still sit on the seats but I'd worry about damaging the seat bottom or hinges.
