    Hey guys,

any recommendations for a ball mount lock and also coupler lock?

right now I just use cotter pin for ball mount and the pin the came with the trailer for the coupler.

I would like two sets and two keys and made in USA is a must

    any suggestions?

    Thanks

I kinda like the ones that have the redundant cotter pin so your not just counting on the lock to hold it on

I have had one similar to this one for the last couple of years and it has served well. Just pull the cap off and use a little oil or graphite in the key hole every year.

Yeah, I didn't bother to check. This was the best looking stuff available at my local hitch shop.

your right , looks awesome, likely the best on the market , but I have to decide if I want to spend that much

    https://www.provenlocks.com/products/receiver-hitch-lock-model-hl1?variant=37678392967364

I don’t see the coupler lock there though that locks the latch down , small pin type

i also wonder if that’s too wide to get at and will be behind the bumper portion of that area

Could be other options, depending on how your hitch is set up. My dad just uses a regular combination lock on his boat trailer.

Ya I’m trying to get key alike which would be handy , also want to buy once and be done type deal

right now that lockitt set looks pretty good, made in USA , can get them same keys, has redundant cotter pin , not completely stupid pricey

And the key faces out so I think that would be easier

    From Canada eh?
Ok had to say it , ha

    looks nice, pretty pricey

do you have a gen 3 and if so does it work well with the room down there and the bumper indent or are you fighting it if you have big paws?

Most trailer locks are very easily broken. As mentioned, Proven industries has probably the best lock design on the market, but you'll pay for it.

I use this design with a ABUS diskus lock. https://www.amazon.com/Blaylock-Ame...roducts&qid=1690297035&sr=8-2#customerReviews

A good puck lock would work too. Again, any determined thief can still pry or cut this off with the right tool. It just helps keep honest people honest.

I don't normally bother with a ball mount lock since I don't like how many are designed, and aren't often solid pieces of steel. I just remove the hitch when not in use.

thanks guys, I guess I didnt title that right, I wasnt looking for that style of hitch lock.

I meant more of the kind that keeps the trailer couple latch down and locked to be used when actively towing, so when you stop or overnight with it still attached its not as easy as just pulling a pin, at least this would slow or deter

I think Im going to go with that lockitt set match keys so far

Im guessing someone could jsut take a sawzall and slide it between and lock and the coupler latch if they really wanted to, but its better than jsut a pin you slide out which is all I have now

That's cool, I totally get it! However, unfortunately you are still probably going to be supporting China in multiple ways, just the facts if you see the bigger picture. Good luck!

Gotcha, and yes those look very nice. You're right any slightly determined thief can still get through it easy, but it will deter some sticky fingers at least. That hitch pin looks nice too, and solid. I normally don't use those as most seem cheap and and easily broken off.

For my coupler latch I use a small brass Master Lock branded one. It works fine, but that one you found is a nicer looking unit. upload_2023-7-25_13-20-13.png

Ok got my stuff from lockitt

it’s super nice, fits perfect and with the key hole facing out you can get to it easier , no more busted knuckles

All keys are alike for both locks and you get nice large sturdy keys , 4 of them

    thumbs up!
