My dealer has a ‘24 Sr5 incoming and Im thinking of putting a deposit down.

Does anyone know if the built quality of the ‘24 year is any better than the prior year model tundras?

    Thoughts ?

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
You’re going to need inside knowledge from a Toyota production engineer working in QDR for that knowledge, and I don’t know if anyone by that description is hanging around here.

We could venture a guess that quality of stampings, body alignment, paint, etc should be more dialed in now.

My 2023 1794 hasn't had any of the issues some have complained about, seems pretty dialed in, so I would expect the 2024's to be at least as good.

My late production year 2022 has no issues either. So far there have been 22s with no issues and 23s with them. Unless you have Toyos internal quality and warranty data anything posted here is just personal experience with one vehicle which is not a trend

My personal hypothesis is higher models have had more issues than the SR5 like mine. Just a hypothesis that more complex is not always better.

Usually, a subsequent model year with no significant changes tend to have higher build quality and less issues unless the manufacturer decides to endeavor in "cost engineering".

The 22 was the start.... 23 got better, 24 will be even better than the 23. The list will go on right till Toyota decides to change around the platform again in a number of years.

First year of the new model are problematic across the board with auto manufacturers.

The key is how much the manufacturers care to fix an issue. Some out there just dont, we buy Toyota products on the idea that problems can happen but they stand behind their product to correct things. Time will tell.

If there are no new part numbers or superseded part numbers 24MY is a carryover model year.

July 28 2023 build "5-6 weeks ago" I picked up 1 week before 24s starting showing up at my dealer "last weekend". No recalls, has the typical issues of door badge peeling, center console noise, no 2nd key fob and throttle delay. Pulled the badges, weather strip applied center console, deal with the throttle and wait on the stupid key.

I believe everything with the 23-24 is progressive, fixes will be applied as they are realized and available. The later your date of build the better but year model doesn't matter except for maybe trade in value.

I have a '22 Platinum with AVS and rear load leveling suspension. Some of the standard issues as have been documented. Headliner loose where the sunroof controls are. Window weatherstrip whistling. center console creaking. Platinum door molding coming off (noticed on day 2 of ownership, pressed back against door really hard, and been fine since) very rare throttle lag, but yes I have noticed it 2 or 3 times. Kind of learned what causes it and able to avoid that behavior.

My good friend @ArthurOz has the identical '24 and when I drove his I could immediately tell his was tighter. All around, center console, headliner, interior door panels. Just a higher quality build, on the identical model and options.

I am considering getting my engine swapped through the recall and trading on a 2025. I absolutely love the truck, and am certain the 2024 is better quality than the 2022, and the 2025 will be better than that.

Plus I gotta one-up my buddy who bought the same truck as me, 2 years newer!

Unless there was a big turn-over in employees who put together the pre Gen3s at that plant the Gen3s being built at that plant should be fine. Say and think what you will - hopefully those pre Gen3 employees are still as dedicated to their work, and the Gen3 trucks will be found to be as good or BETTER over time than prior versions. If not... well buy a Honda and enjoy Medicare!

Exactly why I went with a SR5. So far perfect and everything I need or want. Even saved a shit-ton of $ to spend on useful mods like a bed cover, bed stiffeners, external transmission oil cooler and general maintenence. Less cash and way more truck for the buck!

Has Toyota Tundra/Tacoma copied Dodge/Ram quality process?

You'd either get a great one that lasted forever or one that lived at the service department.
