Totally worth it! I even got rid of that artificial v8 noise from the engine too. Along with hidden functions for roll down window with the key fob.

I know I'm displaying my ignorance here, but do they really have an artificial engine noise in this truck?

The seatbelt chime removal will probably be the best thing ever done to this truck! Removed the engine noise too. I’m pretty fascinated with the little turbo noises. Hoping to make more of them in the future.

I used the Carista OBD dongle and their app to make the changes. You can use other dongles but if you buy theirs you get to use their app for free for a month.

After I was done with the changes using Carista I downloaded the Car Scanner app. Let's you see all sorts of data about the truck that you never thought you needed.

This is pretty cool! Does doing any of this affect the warranty at all?

Not that I'm aware of. I know some posters here have had dealers turn off the noises. Apparently some dealers are willing to do it and others aren't.

Thanks! I'm sure it's just accessing the OS via the screen to turn those off. I used to know how to access that on our Rav4 by talking with the shop foreman at the Toyota dealer, and I'm sure all of those features are in there - just need to go back and chat with him and see if he can walk me through that

100% agree. If it's free, chances are, you're the product.

I turned off my seat belt chimes early on. Was able to access it with a Snap On Solus scantool.

If your dealer can show you how to do it via the screen in the truck please let us know how it's done. Thanks.

Carista is the best thing anyone can do to this truck.

Now if we could set the performance mode default, eliminate the annoying "Need a rest message?", default auto stop to off, and eliminste the radio tuning acrobatics routine, it'd be even better.

The seat belt reminder chime function can only be changed using Toyota TIS or fully compatible scantool software through the 16 pin OBD II diagnostic connector under drivers side of dashboard.

I went to the dealer at about 2k miles in to have them deactivate the seatbelt chime too. It is so loud and persistent.
Dealer was reluctant to do it but I twisted their arm and got them to anyway. Free of charge.

Some dealers will do it, others won't being it a modification of a safety system and resultant liability concerns.

Curious what triggers the Need A Rest Message? I’ve done 2400 mi CA to WA twice now and only recd that msg once. I didn’t feel the leg I drove when it came up was longer than any other. Was in the middle of the night so maybe time of day based too.

I seem to get very out around the 3 hour mark if I don't shut off the truck.

*Hey CARISTA* Wish we could cancel the default ON setting for Start/Stop feature so it stays OFF forever if I turn it off with the button (just like crash assist/auto braking does)

I just want to know how to disable the "school zone ahead" notification that pops up every time I pass a school. If someone knows how, please tell me. You will be my new hero.

Thank you for this info- so my understanding is after you make the changes the OBD tool can be removed & settings saved?? Thank you again!

Yeah, I find a major need to have my seat belt fastened while I'm sitting in my drive way! Way too annoying Toyota! Our Highlander's ding is way less annoying than the Tundra!

My dealer here in Midlothian turned mine off for free, they said it drives them crazy as they move cars around in the lot.
