I mean, 10/12/14/15 will do damn near 2/3 of the fasteners on these trucks. It's the oddballs like the rear diff plugs, the CV axle nuts (if still OEM) that throw a wrench in the works, no pun intended.

@208Tyler is a member here and has a GREAT channel for 1st gen stuff which probably covers some of what you'll want to do: https://www.youtube.com/@208Tyler

Sal is on the 1st Gen FB group from what I hear and although he's maybe slanted towards others, he does a lot of stuff with his 1st Gen on his channel: https://www.youtube.com/@JDMDriveway

But that said, seriously, you can come here any time and ask for help or advice before you kick into a project. There aren't any dickheads on here who will make fun of you like you'll find on other forums I've been on. Sometimes you may get a mild ribbing, or a redirect to another thread, it's all in good fun. If you're worried about posting it publicly or don't want to create a dedicated thread, drop it into the Lunch Table sticky thread that's almost always at the top of the forum. That's a great place to get a quick sanity check on stuff.

A recovery shackle would just be just a simple welded in metal loop bracket where a D ring recovery shackle could be attached to. A winch would be the expensive thing what spools in the wire cable/rope.

So what bumper are you looking at?

Here’s a random pic from the inter web. The light blue colored thing would be a D ring shackle or recovery shackle. There’s probably a ton of different names for what they’re called, but if you’re into 4- wheelin, then everyone will already know what you’re referring it too.

What light blue shackle is mounted to is a recovery tab (or whatever someone wants to call them). Those come standard on pretty much every single offroad bumper.

We all had the fear at one point. Use common sense and you’ll be fine. Being capable of repairs leads to mods. Money saved on labor = more mods! I only take it to shops when I’m lazy or am incapable of doing it myself.

There’s guys who do elaborate woodworking. I am not one of them. I got one that works and fits my needs. If you need inspiration look at rear seat deletes for tacomas.

Im not tall either but I don’t mind having stuff up high as long as it’s light.

    Here’s my advice:

    BE CURIOUS!!!!

Please please please do not hesitate to ask us anything! The people on here are some of the coolest dudes around, we’ll answer any question you’ve got for us.

The #1 reason why I’ve become mechanically skilled and knowledgeable is because I’ve (thankfully) lost my fear of asking questions.

Also- spend some time just checking out your truck. Become super familiar with it. Get to know how it runs, drives, etc, so you can easily and quickly tell when something’s off. Just get used to it.

totally! I don't know why but I was inspired to roll neath it and noticed a couple weird things that I need to get checked out. there's this one part in between the two front tires that looks... not good. I'll try to post a picture of it tomorrow.

I’m a desk jockey at my 7-5 so I spend way more time on here than anyone should :anonymous:. Also, my kids are in bed and my wife has knocked out so I’m just hanging and watching TV tonight.

Both those bumpers look good. The Coastal bumper comes in a bunch of flat pieces that you have weld together.

    Steering rack?

    You can post pics here
Adding to this in general, if you look at the topics list in the main page of the 1st gen forum (i.e. HERE, which is what I bookmark and use when I want to come here) you’ll notice the top few are in a special scrolling box, which is “stuck” to the top of the thread list, i.e. the threads are “sticky”. If you scroll thru that list, it’s basically the group of threads the community has deemed most-important, important enough we want easy access to it. Those are really the threads you want to start looking at when you get here to learn the ropes and have as reference.
