If you're going to be around Houston much get registered with the local tollway folks and use the tollways free with your DV plates. Including a trailer (give 'em the trailer tag number). I'm only around there once a year or so, but I'm haulin' my boat when I do. Can get to Galveston without any tolls.

Yessir, we are getting that too. They gave me trailer tag already… even tho I don’t own one “yet.” Lol. I’m sure once I’m out there full time I will be investing in a trailer for all the work around the property.

Glad youre settling in nicely, I'll assume this is your spouses outfit (then again you are a Marine...) all jabs aside the DV toll exemptions are awesome. I use them frequently from SA to Austin. Holler if you find yourself this way (HF is only a 15 minute drive for me). Cheers Brutha

Hahaha thanks! And yes, that IS my wife holding the plate. Will definitely reach out when we venture out. As of right now just staying put taking care of the property and house and getting it ready for winter.

    What?!?!?

You mean you don't rock the pink crocs in a pink fuzzy robe look to relax!

Hope the storms haven't been to bad but you also have been getting enough rain. First time in months I had green grass and had to mow

I'm just getting caught up on this thread.
    Welcome to Texas.
    I suggested Tyler/Longview area, I wasn't that far off.

I used to have a GF who had family in Rusk.
We would go down there just about every other month.
    It's a nice area.

Hope y'all feel comfortable out there..

Naw I’m not that type of CA transfer lol. Yea the storms we had last week and the scattered rain has definitely helped bring the grass back. Still trying to get caught up in one corner that’s overgrown lol

Houston hasn't seen rain in like forever.... Well, anything that doesn't just disappear in the thin air kind....

I am also a xfer from CA (born and raised in SD right near where Qualcomm used to be). Never really assimilated with most California's and came to visit a buddy stationed in Killeen and fell in love with TX (more my kind of vibe). I have had a hard time kicking the use of "dude" though haha. The longer youre hear, the cooler the summers and the warmer the winters get! Check out Texas Jamboree and other events that happen throughout the year!

Lucky you, we barely had anything worth even mentioning the last three months.
Hoping for some decent rainfall before it all burns up

I spent some time down in SD…. A lot while at Camp Pendleton for 6.5 years. I was born and raised in Riverside County.

from where we’ve lived hearing gun shots wasn’t a good thing so now my kids are freaking out hearing them so often lol. They will adapt…. Hopefully

Small world, my Grandmother lives in Menifee (not sure for how much longer though). That place has developed into something spectacular since I was a child. Spend much time in Joshua Tree? One of the few things I miss about CA

Thank you Sir! My wife actually wants to move to Rusk lol. We have a 10 year goal with what we have now.

It’s been rough for the wife and kids since I’m still in CA due to a work contract but all that will end at the end of October. been flying out monthly but excited to be done and be back with my fam.

Best bet is to look on LinkedIn and cross reference with the companies page to verify its a legit opening.

Took lots of applications and no responses for me. All depends on what you are looking for.

Oh yea! It was crazy on Sunday. Woke up a little warm and humid and then by 10am the temps dropped lol.

Already added siding to my meat chickens tractor coops to keep them from turning into “frozen nuggets,” as my kids would say!

love the cold tho. In the process of restoring my wood burning craft stove so we can use that this winter.

Yea, stock up on wood and make sure to keep them dry as it forecast to be wetter than usual.
Could use the rain, but make sure that wood burns true and hot instead of smoky....

Exactly. Already have a shed ready to be filled next to the house for this winter.

Added a new member to the family. Wife hs been patient and been tough having one vehicle.

Thankfully my cousin who works at Sandlot in Tyler had a 2013 Sequoia Limited come through that fit the wishlist of what she wanted.

    Hopefully she’s surprised

I don’t post much personal stuff but I need to just let out some emotions. I know us men/fathers are looked at being strong and not supposed to bend or show any sensitive emotions.

I’m trying my best to keep it together but my daughter, she is 6, is at the hospital. She is the tiniest most savage girl ever.

Long story short, her asthma spiked really bad Saturday afternoon and the treatments at home weren’t helping. Got to the point where she was struggling so we went to the Emergency room. The supplemental oxygen wasn’t helping and another treatment wasn’t helping. Her oxygen levels were struggling to stay in the high 80s even with the mask on. So they admitted her.

At the main hospital, they got her on steroids and a routine. Scheduled an epicardiogram (sorry my spelling is off on that word) for today (just finished but waiting on the doctor). Last night they started to whin her off the oxygen but her levels would drop. Still ongoing treatments and steroids every 6 hours.

needless to say, I just need to vent since we don’t have family nor close enough friends to really rely on out here yet.

    thank you for reading
