Hey all, recently the top clips on my hood bulge have been popping out at speeds of 60mph+

the clips are intact and push right back in, but then pop or lift out anytime I drive at highway speeds. There seems to be some plastic delaminating on one of the clip holders, but that’s the only things I can isolate.

I had krown applied several months ago and I know it can cause plastic pieces to swell, but I’d be shocked if they actually took the bulge off and sprayed inside the hood cavity.

I know I’m looking at a new hood bulge regardless, but has anybody ever had this happen? Krown or otherwise? I’m afraid to drop coin on a factory matched bulge if it’s going to happen again right away because Krown is splashing it or something.

I don't think your hood bulge is delaminating, that first pic just looks like the rubber trim that's stuck to the edge of the hood bulge is starting to unstick. The rubber trim on my oem hood bulge had a few places places where it unstuck, just stuck it back on with a small dab of glue on the unstuck parts.

As far as the hood bulge popping out, quite a few people have had that issue including myself.
You can try replacing the oem clips with these aftermarket clips, https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Panel-Retainer-90467-10188-Sienna/dp/B0040CTTH4 , a few people here and on the fb groups have reported the hood bulge no longer popping out with them.
I personally had no luck with any clips, but might be due to running a carbon hood. Ended up bolting down mine to the hood.

After 2 years of replacing clips, I finally gave in and bought another hood bulge..
I took it off so many times I broke the plastic where the speed nut clips in.
I tried to glue and epoxy it in place but no luck.
Even the new one does it, but not very often.
When it does happen it is usually from going thru a car wash..

Mine is starting to pop off at the top when I shut the hood with a bit of force. It doesn't come off while driving (yet) but I'm sure it's on it's way. I guess it's time for a new one.

wow, kind of a bummer to hear the glue didn’t hold, I was even considering buying a brand new one and using liquid nails haha

Mine would pop up on the highway at higher speeds (within the speed limit of course...) and I could look under it and see the highway but I have a BD S8 Lightbar in the hood. It eventually cracked on both driver and passenger side at the opening edges. I cut it there and used it as a template for putting an aluminum strap in at the curve line that meets the hood. I took a lot of time going slow making the bends to get it just right. I am happy and my AutoBahn experiences while I visit Germany have been much more uneventful as it used to be

Same here. I gave up finally. To avoid bulge to detach and flying away while driving, I zip tied inside of the bulge with hood. I does not look good since the space in between but it is what it is. Probably only Tundra people notice it.

    Alot of them
Toyota changed to a different clip around 2019 (If I recall correctly) due to them popping off. The OEM part number is 75867-AA010

I have a 2020. Same issues as above. Plastic broke on both sides where the 10mm hold it.
Finally bought a new one. It took 6 months for my local dealership to get one in. But it hasn’t come out again. Yet….

My 2019 started popping up every time I drove it over 45 mph.
Followed the Amazon solution with the new oversized clips they are 15 thousandths larger than the OEM clips
Worked perfect though very difficult to fit back in to the sheet metal.
    Thanks for the tip.
