I messed up my tow mirrors. What would be the replacement cost?

This is my second self-inflicted accident with my tow mirrors (they are certainly tough but can cause trouble). I side swiped my passenger side tow mirrors by a stop sign trying to avoid another truck that was coming over too close to where I was. The end result was marks on my tow mirrors and the glass coming off (but it’s not shattered). I put it back in place but it jiggles as I drive it.

I ordered an OEM replacement passenger side tow mirror from Olathe Toyota Parts. I was watching videos on YouTube on installation and don’t believe it’s something I can tackle on my own. How much would it cost if I had someone install it for me and I provide the part? I haven’t had the chance to call yet.

You should be able tackle this without too much issue if you are replacing a mirror with similar options. A second set of hands will help with door skin removal, but otherwise it should be pretty easy to un-bolt the old, disconnect. Connect the new, bolt it up, and then put the door skin back on.

 

There isn't much to swapping the mirror.
It would help to have someone hold it while you swapped them.
Pull the door panel, that's easy.
Unplug it and remove 3 nuts, or remove 3 nuts and unplug it.
Make sure you don't drop any of the nuts down in the door.
It's a bitch to fish them out.
DO the reverse to install, replace the door panel.

The dealership will change a minimum of 1 hour for labor.
I think that runs over $110 per hour.

 

What do you mean by replace the door panel? Is that something I should be ordering as well?

 

You will need some dash tools.
To help pry the door panel and to pry up the window switch panel..

This is the passenger door side of my 2014 but yours should be similar.

 

No, I meant put it back on, reinstall it.
You might not even need to pull the door panel, I can't remember exactly where those nuts are in reference to the door panel.

Yes you do need to pull the panel..
The bottom nuts are behind the panel..

You can do this but I understand not wanting to dick around with it especially if you have my luck
Call around to local repair shops I'll bet you can have it installed for 100 bucks

It really is a pretty easy job though I've done it twice on my 07

 

Setting aside labor costs, if you have screwdrivers and socket wrenches it's quicker to replace them yourself than to deal with dropping the truck off at a mechanic.

 

Well, I feel a whole lot better. When the part came in this morning, I went straight to the dealer ($150 just for labor). Now, I just hope that I don’t make anymore mistakes.

 

I replaced my original non-tow mirrors on my 2013 Limited with Platinum tow mirrors. Also ordered from Olathe. My mechanic did it for me and said it was easy.

 

Ok this just happened today. This piece by the inner door knob got loose. I can never expect perfection from some techs at the dealer. I’m trying to see if I can get it back in place.

 

It just snaps in place but maybe they broke the clip. I'd probably just use some double-sided tape if it doesn't clip in.

 

It still won’t snap back in. Would i have to buy another clip?

 

Why aren't you taking back to the dealer? You've already wasted the time it would take and spent the money to have the job done right
