I have the veepeak adaptor and have downloaded the Carista, and obd fusion apps.

Carista is subscription based, whereas fusion is a purchase option.

    1. are they more or less the same? Carista has “customizations” I.e seatbelt chimes, and a few “gauges” I.e coolant temperature.

fusion may or may not have the same, or different features BUT since I have to buy add ons I don’t know until I buy, which leads to my next question….

    2. Do I buy the “Toyota 2021”, or “Toyota 1996-2021”?

I think it was 20 bucks for one, and 100 for the 96-21 package.

can someone explain what the differences are, and what do I get/not get with the 20 or 100 dollar fusion add on?

Carista is a monthly pay service. Buy the year, or buy a month. Also buy the year, get a free month , make your changes then cancel it

For Carista, you select 3rd Gen since you have a 2024. I don’t know about the other software.

    Function before sparkle.
The $20 version gets you compatibility with only one year. The $100 version gets you compatibility with the wide range. If you only have one Toyota, just get the $20 version.

I kinda figured that. As to “settings” can fusion alter settings or is it just a monitor thing?

Actually just looking at the options, there isn’t a 2022+ for Toyota. Seems like 2021 is the latest.

I have been studying the Carista app, its capabilities, and am ready to download it. I have a current and up to date model of the OBDLink MX+. Carista says it is compatible to use the OBDLink MX+ as the adapter / dongle to interface for the customization. Anyone know of any problems to use this setup. Thanks.

EDIT: I jumped in and subscribed to the app for 90 days, $6/mo. Connected to the OBDLink MX+ adapter with no problem. Made several desired adjustments. However, there appears some dealer Customizable Features are not available to be adjusted in Carista.

For the Carista app, I programmed the Seat belt warning ding (driver) to Disabled but it still dings when starting up the truck with belt unlatched. With the belt latched, it does not ding. Is this normal?

No. Mine does not ding. Only the icon on the dash lights up. Yo may want to re-check it. Maybe you didn't save it.

I wish I had a screen shot of it for you. I did mine a while ago. I think it saves it as soon as you change it. Go in and see what the setting is set at. Try this thread - it has a lot of extra ppl asking questions and stuff, but there's screen shots just so maybe you can compare what you're seeing to these.

Thanks guys. I just gave it another go. It is disabled, saved, and still chimes when switched on. I downloaded from the app the current settings and attached is the relevant ones for the seat belt. i am starting to get a little disappointed. Maybe I will contact Carista help.
The following settings were available specifically to your vehicle using Carista:
    Chassis & Engine:
    Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
    *ON* / OFF
    Engine Sound Enhancement (ESE)
    ON / *OFF*
    Dings & Warnings:
Warn when doors opened with headlights on
    *ON* / OFF
    Seat belt warning ding (driver)
    ENABLED / *DISABLED*
Seat belt warning ding (front passenger)
    ENABLED / *DISABLED*
Seat belt warning ding (rear right passenger)
    ENABLED / *DISABLED*
Seat belt warning ding (rear left passenger)
    ENABLED / *DISABLED*
Seat belt warning ding (rear center passenger)
    ENABLED / *DISABLED*

That's just weird. I'd wonder what the truck would do if a dealer with techstream adjusted those settings. Should make no difference how those settings get changed. It would be how the truck acts on those changes.

Looking at all the things Carista can do like changing settings. Can these settings changed by just using the settings menu on the truck or are these more of dealer settings that can't be changed unless using Carista.
I use OBD Fusion for my 08 and had to program in PIDs for the trans temps, are there any PIDs for the 3rd gen?

Anyone tried this one on the 3rd gen?

I can answer part of your question...The settings affected by Carista are in addition to those in the Settings menu and yes, they are more of dealer settings which can be changed by the dealer or by using Techstream. Carista just makes it easier by walking user through each category. Using the Carista dongle, it took me all of 10 minutes to go through all of the settings and make the changes. While Carissa has a monthly usage charge, you can use it for a month free and then cancel. You can also use Carista to see status and error codes. If you want to see all of the settings and reports available, just go to Carista.com and select your vehicle.

Some members used a Veepak ODB dongle to connect to Carista. There is a whole thread on Carista which explains it in detail.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/carista-obd2.109929/page-8

Someone else would have to answer the PID question. I believe there are based on comments on the forum, but I don't know details.

Thanks Chuckles, super helpful and glad to hear the Veepak should work, only saw this thread after I ordered it. I use OBD Fusion on my 08 Tundra to monitor temps while towing. Hopefully I'll find some PIDs to do the same for the '24 as I'm retiring the 08.

Just a note - I had the Veepeak WiFi version from my Tacoma as I didnt want to interfere with the Bluetooth. It worked great in the new Tundra but WiFi interferes with Apple CarPlay. So for the hell of it I bought the cheapest Bluetooth dongle on AMZ. I think it was $12. It works perfectly too. - Don’t pay a lot for an OBD dongle !!
