I hope not. I’m leaning more towards it being flashed incorrectly. Before they shipped, they said it “shouldn’t” be an issue with flashing it with the intent of bypassing the JBL amp, but if something doesn’t work to give them a call to walkthrough the re-flashing process.

The alpine/maestro/jbl combo requires that the Front RCA out of the Alpine connect to the maestro RCA jacks and routes those to the factory’s amp. There’s a different firmware flash for JBL vs non JBL.

If it's the same size as the 2014-2017, this is what I used:

The left side - no. Those are a special non-standard shape.
The rest of them down there are regular “small Toyota” rectangular blanks

I got it working. I reflashed the Maestro and all is well. Love the ILX-F511. Easy to use, very intuitive. Definitely sounds more clear and punchy, although I can’t push the stock speakers too much or they start sounding like they will blow.

I got the Alpine 10 speaker bundle from TGP coming on Friday. Curious to see how much of a difference it makes over the stock speakers. TGP ships them with mounting brackets and connectors, all just drops into the factory locations.

TGP is close to releasing their JBL bypass 5 channel amp/subwoofer combo so I plan on getting that when it’s released as well.

Congrats bud. Just about any aftermarket speakers are gonna make you wonder why you waited to replace them. I'm chompin at the bit to buy one of those HUs but my Pioneer keeps chugging along albeit with its hangups.

On the 2020, the OBD data goes through the Meastro data cable. You don't need that plugged into the OBD port at all.

I still have to retry the firmware on mine. Yeah Pioneer definitely has quirks. I would probably look at one of the Alpines if there was a way to have it flush mounted like the Pioneer is.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I ran it anyway just to have it there. I can just unplug it and zip tie it under there. I unplugged it when I was testing everything and sure enough, the trans temp still worked.

I think Mike at TGP included it just incase because he wasn’t positive whether that particular reading got pulled through the Maestro data cable or not.

    Thanks for confirming.

I wasn’t sure about the screen sticking out but after putting it in, man is it easier to use while driving. It looks almost factory like it’s supposed to be like this. The Alpine styling on this unit really flows with the interior on our trucks.

I'll have to look at some more pics. I was considering the 9 inch model.

Mine is tucked behind the dash somewhere. Maestro kits come as more of a universal kit for all, that's why most of the wiring doesn't even get used. My OBD port is tied up with my Pedal Monster and ScanGauge 3. I get my temps on there and don't even use the gauges on the Pioneer.

I'm not sure if the mount can be molded to tuck it more into the dash like the Pioneer or not. I can't remember.....is yours tucked in like mine?

I guarantee I can flush mount that. The Pioneer I have is a 10" screen.

Ok....yours is like mine then. Now I'm curious if the 9 inch Alpine could be done like that.

I wanted flush mount too, but honestly after installing it and being able to adjust the angle, the screen sticking out feels more natural than the stock flush. That’s just me though.

There's pros and cons. Can you adjust it on the fly or does it have to be screwed into position?

there is one final plastic trim piece on the backside that is completely concealed. If you leave that off, it can be adjusted anytime and it is super rigid. I left that piece off so I could adjust it whenever. The piece is completely hidden.

Another cool little touch is this led backlighting on the bottom portion of the bezel. Subtle but very cool looking.

I have that same gauge screen on mine but it does not show trans temps. I can only assume because my truck is a 2014. Sucks, cause I've always wondered about that when I'm towing my travel trailer up I17 in summer at 110 outside. Oh well, ignorance is bliss I guess.
