2024 Defender is a very cool truck and should have zero problems at this point...just saying they do have a fleet of loaners for a reason not dogging your truck but yeah the reliability of the brand in general...not to mention depreciation...I'd still roll the dice on a new Lexus or Toyota before anything for reliability...and I suck at gambling ha.

I would be curious to know who has the most miles on their 2022 Tundra without a failure....

In my quest to find these 24 models that spun. One was on Reddit. And during the discussion on that thread another guy's wife's 24 sequoia was in the shop for motor replacment. The 24 models I heard about were on Facebook and Reddit. I just randomly searched 2024 Tundra engine failure on Google.

I ended up trading mine away at a loss. I put 23k miles on my truck in 10 months and did not want to risk it. I loved that truck and wish I had the confidence to keep it.
Ended up in a Nissan Titan.

This is where I'm at. I'm just afraid of taking a bath on it. I went to my Toyota dealer yesterday and they have over 100 new Tundras just sitting on the lot and can't sell them so I'm sure all the dealers know this. The Nissan dealers in my area have some great discounts on the Titans.

Toyota really screwed the pooch...I'm so pissed at myself I bought it but I thought "Toyota Reliability".

The new Titans are nice, and they still come with a V8. My buddy's seems comfortable and solid. I'd consider one, if I didn't take too much of a hit on the trade.

I, too, am curious how your Titan trade went, if you'd care to share the actual numbers.

We don't seem to have the Titan in Canada anymore!

I looked at a Cummins version a few years back and it looked pretty nice. But I waited and went the "reliable" way with the Tundra.

Nissan is discontinuing the Titan after the 2024 model year. They are exiting the full size market. So there's that.....

That sounds like great service! I can't even get a response from Toyota Customer Service after several attempts. Seems like a shift in the space time continuum! :)

That sucks! almost worth keeping it and selling it once the recalls are done and the demand for the Tundra comes back.

I had to do a double take, the new Taco looks like a baby Tundra these days. I’m counting here, you have 5 vehicles? That’s like one for each weekday. Looks great. The red/TRD wheel combo is nice!

Nice! We helped daughter #1 get into a 2018 Honda Civic a few years ago. She’s long left the nest.

Daughter #2 will never be leaving the nest, so we got her into this sweet front wheel drive EV vehicle. I pretend to pedal mostly.

Quick update on my efforts to trade off my Tundra...I had been emailing and texting one of the sales managers at my Toyota dealer about trading my truck off a few weeks ago. The best they would do was $55k ($67 sticker last year).
Fast forward to now, guess I should have jumped on it as post engine recall I've been emailing and texting him and he won't return either so my dealer is basically ghosting me. Very telling....getting more pissed off at this situation day by day.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
    Matt,
I did also for curiosity I took my Tundra in for a Toyota appraisal at my dealer and was offered 43 grand, Carvana 48 grand and Nissan 45 grand. Nissan however told me my truck was worth more but they couldn’t risk keeping a Toyota on their lot.
My vehicle situation changed last fall so I’ll stick with my Tundra and wait to see what happens.

Thanks. A $15-20K hit on the trade-in is a tough pill to swallow. I kinda suspected that, though. Like you, I'll stick it out with my Tundra. That kind of a depreciation hit on a low odds "what-if" scenario would be illogical to me.

Can anyone speak to how these current trade in values compare to historical Tundra rates of depreciation prior to the recall? Would be very interested in the actual historical rates. This would be useful in quantifying the dollar amount of damage each owner has incurred. For instance suppose it was really $15K extra deprecation for everyone like the poster above. $15K x 100K owners, thats $1.5billion dollars! That’s easily class action territory and attorneys would be lining up. I personally don’t think the extra depreciation is that bad from what I’m seeing on sale prices (maybe $3-5K), but would certainly be open to be proven wrong.

I can't speak towards historical depreciation rates, but I've read that Caravana quotes have decreased at least $5K since the recall.

When I bought my Gen 3, I negotiated the sales price *before* mentioning my 2015 Tundra trade-in. That way they couldn't play games with the 2 numbers. They gave me $25K for my 2015 1794 with 149K miles on it. I thought that was very reasonable. I have no illusions of my Gen 3 holding that much value.

Multiple hits here. The market is sporadically correcting from the COVID market so new and used prices are dropping. Carvana after faceplanting is no longer inflating the market with 20% over quotes for other buyers to match. Inventories for new are high and competing with new trade ins. Loan rates are high. Then the recall hit.

So panic selling or buying with the herd is the same result as with anything of value: you will loose mucho money.

Somebody just posted theirs with 100k miles. The last time Eurodriver would actually answer the question, his 22 SR had 136k miles on it. Good luck finding any info on it. He went and deleted a ton of posts about that truck (probably because he was trying to sell it or trade it in).

You can go to CarGurus, search Tundras, restrict it to 2022-2024, and sort by highest mileage first to get an idea of how many high mileage trucks there are out there.

There are 5 3rd gens for sale nationally with 100k+ miles on them. Lots more with well over the average mileage of failure. There are many more even still with higher mileage than the average failure that aren’t for sale.

This is why it is so fascinating to me to see so many of you guys dumping your trucks at a loss—at the absolute worst time to trade before the fix is announced by Toyota and in the middle of a very cooled market.
It isn’t just Tundras. The market has cooled significantly and is very different from the market in 2022-2023.

The entire front of a dealership runs on commission. No sales no rent money. Just a timing issue locating and ping a dealer in the window they are hurting and they will do almost anything to book a sale. Last weekend of a month that ends on Monday or Tuesday is usually a good one if the salesman and sales manager have not hit quota that month. They don't give two craps if the dealer loses money down the road on a bad trade. If they don't make quota they will all be gone by the time it gets wholesaled anyway.

if they are offering $55k on a trade for a truck that stickered for $64k seems pretty fair...No big 3 dealer would do that today...probably high $40k at best

Dealer likely has a row of equivalent new ones for sale as well. The days of getting what you paid or more are over.

With the inflation of prices there is zero headroom for future models to go up in price. That is a cap in used one values as well.
