It's a sealed system under pressure, replace the line.

I see that you live in Fairbanks, Alaska. How often do you use your AC? What's the high? 80? In regards to a JB Weld repair, absolutely not. You're going to need a new hose. If I lived in Alaska, I wouldn't bother.

Actually I have eliminated it on my 2000 runnner, I usually drive with windows open. However we do get bad forest fires up here with smoke real thick, at current time we are on our heat wave of 84, and bad smoke, and I thought ...hey its got a cabin filter I read,,,and with ac, the smoke would not be so bad.
but as others have pointed out, not an easy fix, and by the time I do we will be back in the70's..so since I dont use the ac....is there another way to run a belt and not even have it go around the compressor ? My 4 runner had 3 belt's, and I just took off the ac belt

You haven't told us anything about your truck, other than 2002 AC. Engine is is important. In either case of V6 or V8 you're going to have a tough time eliminating the A/C compressor. They run a serpentine belt. Not saying it can't be done, but more brain damage than it's worth, IMO. Also, you don't have a cabin air filter. If you did end up repairing the A/C system, you do have a recirculation button that closes the fresh air intake and circulates only cabin air. That might help with smoke.

I just had to replace a muffler and a dryer on the high side of my Trane home unit. It was soldered in-line with silver solder. High side pressures are about 200 psi. I wonder if you could solder in a coupling or section of tube?

nope. It'll leak out soon enough. You will need to replace the hose, have the truck hooked up to the proper a/c machine to extract out any old refrigerant/oil, set a vacuum to the system to make sure there are no more leaks and then refill with the proper amount of refrigerant/oil.

you can, but these hoses don't take THAT much pressure and most aftermarket brands hold up just fine. The price savings are negligible doing a custom hose job vs buying and just installing a new hose.

the pricey part is finding a a/c specialist with the machine used to extract/set a vacuum/recharge the system. They're pricey and you pay for it.
