I understand that, which makes the Toyota app even more of a POS since it can't even lock/ unlock the doors to the truck. My cellular device does not transmit a “signal” directly to any of the devices in my home either, yet they all work as they should through their own respective apps.

Edit : I found the option to buy it for 19.95 /mth ummmmmNOPE

There are a lot of shady insurance companies out there. I can only speak for the one I work for, which wins a lot of awards for handling claims, sometimes to our company's detriment. And we do offer lower rates with a telematics device, depending on your driving habits. Drive it like you stole it? While fun, would result in higher rates.

Lastly, Toyota is a business, like any other car manufacturer. Do you really think they care if you trust them? The American market is full of uneducated sheep that follow the crowd. How do you think Ford has had the best selling vehicle for 40+ years despite the vehicle being recalled too many times to count? Toyota could sell over half of their customers dog poop with a steering wheel, and most people would love it. Don't think for a second Toyota is different and actually cares about you. All publicly traded companies, including Toyota, care only about their investors, shareholders, and the bottom line. The days of companies being responsible stewards disappeared many years ago.

@dagooaz - You are just talking shit and diverging from the subject. Data collected and transmitted to the insurance company will result in higher premiums, and calling it "fair share" is a manipulation. It would be great if you could share who you work for so we can check whether your telematics program is cheaper, but I highly doubt it.

I will not reveal my employer for obvious reasons. I do not speak on their behalf, only my own. At the end of the day, I’m not going to get into a pissing contest with you. It wouldn’t be advantageous to the forum to see another one of those.

You obviously have a strong opinion on the matter, which I respect. I’ve just been relaying my experience working for the “dark side”. I will acquiesce to an agree to disagree. Have a great night sir!

Anybody know how much Remote Connect is per month? Mine is toast in 11 days and while it may be useful in the winter here I'm not sure if I want to pay for this.

cant get it a la carte....pick the plan you dont like the most and pay up. I gave up on the music plan because it never worked 100% for me so I switched to the nav plan even though I never use the built in nav. costs the same.

Not being able to a la carte is the annoying part. You pay $15/month for music integration or $15/month for navigation. Both say "Remote Connect" included free as if it's available elsewhere. I hate that. You can't include something for free unless it's available at a cost elsewhere. Otherwise it's just part of the package and really $7.50/month as it's half the cost of the subscription. It's not a "bundle" unless they're available separately as well. The Remote Connect is all I want and use, and I'd be happy to pay for it. I use it enough that I did sub to the "bundle" to keep it, but that doesn't mean I didn't cuss out Toyota when I selected the option.

yep...I dont use the toyota remote start..but I do use the app to monitor the truck and lock it if I forget. I use my aftermarket remote start, exclusively, because it doesnt shut off when I open the door and it works farther than 30ft from the dang truck

Well that stinks and seems to be a bit misleading but thanks for clearing that up. Maybe I just use it seasonally. More interested in remote starts with app in the winter. So, I'll just keep cancelling and subscribing in the winter months

Which remote start did you get? My wife's Lexus remote works farther away than my stupid truck remote. Even the Toyota's that I rent on a weekly basis for work have a MUCH farther range than my truck! What gives, Toyota? Why keep putting inferior tech into the Tundra?!!?

Unlike you I am patient. I waited until Day 3 to call Toyota to tell them where to shove their Connected Services. Very politely, of course.

My '24 1794 has never worked to start with the remote fob. Only the app. I'll learn to live without it.
As far as subscriptions, no way. Spotify/Apple or google maps. Not paying for inferior tech.

I'm sure they are capturing it no matter what we choose to opt out of, and probably have some loophole to share it too.

I plan on physically disconnecting the hardware as soon as possible. Trust but verify is good policy.

Curious if there is a way to disable the cellular function that sends data to Toyota after the 1 year free subscription is over? Fuse, Cellular SIM card, something???

Theoretically, you can just disconnect the antenna. Although I saw posts saying it will throw a code, but then you should be able to add a dummy load to fool the whole machinery.

I was going to explore a grounded Faraday cage with a 3D-printed shark fin cover, but I never got to it. I think since it won't fully enclose the antenna (the bottom will be totally uncovered, and the metal roof is a perfect radiation plate), it won't fully eliminate the connectivity.

I can CONFIRM (for my truck) the remote start using the key fob DOES NOT WORK after your subscription expires. I stood next to the truck and tried it three times and it will NOT start.

This is odd, because I never activated any of the connected services, not even for the free trial, so there's nothing to expire. My FOB remote start works fine.

My trail subscription expired 7 months ago. But my key fob will still start my Tundra. I have found it is all in the timing. You have to press the button 3-4 times at just the right speed and hold the last press. Try veering your speed, a tenth of second makes a difference. The sequence is a little on the fast side. It always takes a couple or more tries to get it...

Fob works fine for remote start. Regarding Remote Connect, at least Toyota has added some options now..,

I should have specified that this isn’t for the Tundra. Hopefully this is something that will be added for the Tundras soon.

I cannot cancel only Drive Connect. I can cancel ALL of them or NONE.
And yes, my software is updated.

Thank you both for your feedback. I will try it again. Yes, I agree the timing can be frustrating to get right, but it worked prior to my subscription expiring. I will give another try and report back. Again, thank you!

I've skimmed a little of this thread. With that being said, I just used my fob to start my truck. My subscription is expired. I paid for 1 month, a couple months back, hoping the find my truck would tell me where it was. I forgot where I parked and the app was no help because it maybe doesn't track in the app until you have the subscription. I also reset the app which broke the link to the truck. And couldn't reconnect until I could put it the code from the screen. Really shitty situation walking around downtown Nashville at 11pm with my 8yo.

These are "Nice to have" vs "Need to have" features. I didnt have these features with my previous vehicle and they arent great enough for me to pay to keep. So I personally will not be renewing. Same for me with On-Star in the past with other vehicles.

This whole subscription service for everything, business model is BS (not just Toyota). I see a future where Toyota will include for free as a differentiator, because I doubt many will renew service after their first year is up.

That said I will keep the app on my phone as I expect service and recall notifications will remain for free, and a phone app is most convenient for that purpose alone.

Ya, I have the app still. It'll show you tire pressure, miles till empty, and the recall stuff. One thing I slightly miss, is having the nav directions on the little cluster screen. It would just tell you your next turn but was convenient as sometimes the voice is too slow if you have to swap lanes in busy traffic.
