once you start baiting, you attract more and they tend to follow the track/scent of previous ones.
I ended up trapping 4 and the dog is not far behind at 3, then I paused. Still an occasional visitor, but if there’s no food they seem to move on until they get bold enough to come on the back porch, then the trap comes out again.
Take a few days off from baiting and see what happens.

Another thing I heard from a professional trapper is that raccoons are very territorial, if you release a raccoon in another raccoons territory, the strongest will survive

Peanut butter and a Duke dog-proof raccoon trap. Most of the older ones know better than to walk into a havahart trap. The Duke is also fairly selective as I think about the only other animal that can trigger it might be a skunk (thankfully haven't had that problem..).

Because humans have over populated the planet and most of them aren't real bright.
Tech has evolved waaaayyyy faster than the average human's intellect. But we'll still sell anything to anyone. Now, the average person that wouldn't have lasted very long, a few thousand years ago,.... can own a home, a vehicle, pets, basically survive by clicking a mouse button. Almost zero repercussion for being completely useless and incompetent. Shit, most people do little more than consume, create waste and annoy everyone. In the negative. Less than useless.
But shit, there's so much money to be made on everyone in the short term, might as well keep 'em all around. I guess.

I would have preferred the purging that Europe got with their plague, or like the Spanish Flu.

    I don't like people.

Proof positive that I'm not racist for hating coons. Quick someone post a picture of an albino crow or starling.
