Rack and pinion replacement

Does anyone know the part numbers for the two o-rings for the two lines on the drivers side and the part number for the rubber bushing on the passenger side?

the steering racks on Rock auto don’t seem to come with the o-rings or bushing. Thanks!

going to try to replace myself. Doesn’t seem too complicated. 2002 Tundra 4x4 with 4.7 engine.

@Weagle had some problems with his O-rings IIRC.

I just put in a Detroit Axle new rack this weekend and will update the post inserted by BMF4069 soon on the outcome. I did the new rack from DA and didn't need any O-Rings. I bled the system after having it all connected and I have no leaks. I did a urethane bushing set, but getting the bushings out from the new rack was a real challenge, but got it done.

Buy it directly from DA and google a promo code--I got like $25 off and free shipping. It got to Vegas in 2 days.

I also got an oem intermediate shaft which I am so glad that I did. Mine was deteriorated to the point it was like fabric. I also got OEM tie rod ends. Look on eBay from a good seller and you can save some decent money.

does the DA rack come with the two small o-rings or the large bushing for the passenger side? I didn’t see it say anything in the description?

 

It did not come with the O-rings. They gave me a $10 credit after I complained.

it came with all of the bushings, but I knocked them out with ease and replaced them with the polyurethane ones I had previously purchased.

IIRC I just used a deep socket that was smaller than the opening and lightly tapped with a hammer. Didn't need to just beat it, just kept tapping to push it out

Dont forget to use appropriate grease if you use poly's to prevent squeaking



if you get a new one from Detroit axle, it has a small C at the base that attaches to steering to indicate the center. It is easy to miss.

 

They don’t come with the o-rings. They come with the lines cause they want you to replace the lines when you do a rack.

I believe Toyota quoted me over $900 for the pair if you go OEM, but I'm sure one of the dealers that sells online would give you about a 30% discount. In retrospect, I would've either done that since I saved so much money on the rack or at least bought new aftermarkets

Yeah, sorry I was a little short in my earlier posts. I was in a spot I couldn't type a lot. I've had the DA rack and I believe Moog TREs for 2 years now. I've put about 7500 miles on it since then with 2 somewhat serious offroad adventures. They held up very well and are still holding strong. I did the same as @Weagle and put in poly bushings. The Moog TREs will eventually be a weak point so they'll get replaced eventually. No leaks on mine but I guess the new rack overpowered the weak lines so they popped a hole in them when we were bleeding the rack. No leaks from the rack though after install. I got the Suosong lines from RA to replace them. No leaks 2 years later. I didn't have to deal with any O-rings so I'm pretty sure the lines came with them, and they stayed on the old lines when we replaced the rack.

 

Like Weagle said, there weren't any o-rings in the new rack, but it's my understanding those are part of the lines, not the rack, so when I took my lines off, they were still on there. I installed the same lines, bled the system and have had no leaks at all.
