2021 1794 model. Should the tailgate lock when you use the fob t lock the doors?

It depends on if it has the electronic tailgate lock. It wasn't a standard feature. It was an option, so some have it and others don't.

Yep. Port installed option. My 21 lowly SR5 has one.

To answer your question, yes. it locks and unlocks with the fob. One slight difference: Once the tailgate is opened you still must open a door to prevent the timeout feature that relocks the doors after the timer runs out.

The answer to the question is only "yes" IF the truck is equipped. His may not have it.

That's why I quoted your post. Yes, you must have that option. What's this aftermarket solution? Pop n lock or something like that? The harness must be there for it to be a port installed option.

I added this feature after I got the truck. Search this forum for ways to do it either with the OEM kit or with aftermarket parts.

Right, I just didn't want the OP to misunderstand your answer of "yes" to think that all 1794s or 2021s should have it. Maybe it's my graveyard brain, but your post looked like it could be misinterpreted.

Thanks. I've seen some with the option and was surprised that mine did not work that way. Didn't know if something was wrong or if it was never installed.

If you take off the panel on your tailgate, you'll be to see if there is lock mechanism installed. My 2020 SR5 trd sport did not come with one. I installed the OEM version which was pretty easy and plug and play.

    Not sure at this point.
Pop N Lock is the way to go. Spend the money and it’ll work flawlessly. I know others will suggest otherwise, but the convenience factor of having the lock and being able to install it easily is a win win.

Open up the little panel on the tailgate and look to see if there is an actuator on the locking mechanism. Just a couple of screws to take out to check.
If you don’t have that option pop n lock is an easy install. Mine has been working flawlessly since 2018.

When I bought my OEM one back in 2020 it was $135, but it appears they have just about doubled in price. I would probably choose aftermarket too or just follow this: https://www.tundras.com/threads/diy-pop-and-lock-for-a-fraction-of-the-cost.28693/

Additionally, if it helps at all, I attached the OEM install instructions that came with my kit. It shows all the steps with photos, all the components (which you could buy separately aftermarket), part number, what tools and socket sizes you need, even torque specs (silly for this really).

Just pick a nice cool day and take your time. It is a piece of cake. It is probably the most useful add-on I did to my Tundra. Pretty stupid that Toyota didn't include that as standard equipment with the 1794 on that gen IMO.

I got mine right from Toyota. Best mod. It was a pain locking that thing manually all the time.

The only PITA is running it all the way under the vehicle to the passenger footwell. But all in all, this is a mod everyone should have if not pre-installed through factory.
