I’ve done that before in winter slush and survived. No breather mod done to date.

I had a chance this weekend to grab some splined axle ends to finally be able to check breakaway torque on the LSD as I rebuild it. Custom SST ftw.

Not this coming weekend but maybe in the next few weeks I can get to it again.

Family friend has a 2024 Capstone Tundra. Been in and driven it a couple of times, it's nice. Not my cup of tea- but the rearview mirror is a screen, which is neat. It displays what a normal rearview mirror would, and functions as a backup camera when reversing. Really neat.

Today this product came to my attention: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0811Q28N6?_encoding=UTF8&redirectFromSmile=1

It's essentially just a touchscreen that gets attached to your existing rearview mirror. It functions as a dashcam and rearward camera, and you can move the camera angle via the touchscreen to aid in reversing. I like it because it doesn't require any permanent mounting, aside from running/connecting the wires. You can power it from a 12v socket and you don't need to tap into the reverse light wires. It's very highly reviewed and has a ton of customization and features.

Does anyone have experience with a product like this? What do you think is the best way to run a power wire to the fuse box under the steering wheel, and a camera wire to the tailgate? Couple of 2nd gen guys have put it in their trucks but I haven't seen anyone do it to a best gen.

I’ve had one for a year. Buy their hardwire kit and my advice is wire it backwards. Mount the camera and you should have plenty of length on an AC to get into the cab via grommet in the back, down the interior side panels, up the column and out of the headliner to the mirror.

    2 questions for ya.

Where did you mount the camera? I'd be inclined to mount it on the 3rd brake light but I'd also want it on the tailgate/bumper for backup camera view.

Does it get dim enough in the dark? Like the middle-of-absolute-nowhere dark?

It’s currently on the rear bumper. Doesn’t work at night through 5% tint. It’s not leading dash cam quality but it’s good for what it is. In ideal conditions it’s great. Rain and dust kill visibility out of it, but better than nothing. I have the screen turned off 90% of the time as I prefer a traditional camera. I have a tailgate handle backup camera connected to my head unit and this.

These go on sale all the time so wait for a deal. If you’re having reservations just buy one. Dashcams are non negotiable with how crazy people are these days.

here’s a night shot. Ignore me crossing the double yellow. I forgot I didn’t have traction control and was throttling through it lol.

edit: no streetlights within a mile of this intersection.

I have a snugtop and I have been thinking where can I mount it?

Then i seen one of the local guys that does 12v install is a rep for them. He just wired one up for this good looking 1GT. Looks like it’s wired up to the back up camera on license plate.

not the best video but check it out

You can mount it in the same spot. They sell a bracket for the license plate. Also you can adjust the angle the camera displays on the screen so the angle you mount the camera is less critical.

Looks like you’ve got some serious dirt miles on that cantilever. What’s your take on it?

This is @Sunnier 's truck, not mine. But I wheel with her often and know the cantilever well. I really like the setup though and having both tires planted more often helps her get up stuff my truck can't. If I had the money to swing, I'd go this route in a heartbeat. The rear up travel on this truck is causing the tires to stuff into the wheel well and act as a brake, so they're going to cut out the OEM wheel wells and put in bigger ones.

I dunno who needs to read this but ... now is a good time to freeze your credit.

I learned today, the hard way, hackers stole social security numbers for ~3 billion people, along with all personal information required to steal your identity, and it was for sale on the dark web. This happened back in March, and the victim holding my data without my authorization, has known about it since March, but it only came to light because the info was found for sale on the dark web.

It just so happens I got a letter in the mail from Chase, someone trying to open a new credit card in my name, and their fraud team pointed me to the breach. Lucky me, I just signed up for a new Chase card a couple months ago, so they flagged it as strange I was trying to open another of the same card which I already have (but didn't at the time of the breach). Had I not, whoever is trying to do this to me probably would've gotten a card.

The data they used, I am told, was likely stolen from National Public Data, a data warehouse that never asked for anyone's permission to hold said data, but just fucked over (potentially) every American and billions more people. More info on that breach from CNBC:

    https://www.cnbc.com/2024/08/23/was...en-national-public-data-breach-questions.html

Or NYTimes' Your Money guru: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/15/...e_code=1.E04.9lR7.2O_66xhGJfi6&smid=url-share

Anyway, I dunno who else needs to read this, but there is a website (a legitimate one) where you can lookup whether you're impacted. Here's a link, pentester.com is a legitimate site which Chase's fraud division directed me to, it only asks for your name and bdate, nothing overly sensitive that hasn't been uncovered in any of the dozens of other breaches we've all been in.

Additional helpful links to freeze your credit, which is free.
This will end up being one of the biggest breaches in history, if not already there. So far, I've managed to avoid most of the ones where PII was leaked, including the big Equifax breach about 20yrs ago. I guess my luck just ran out.

    Anyway, good luck y'all.

    Nope. It's free. https://npd.pentester.com/

I just replaced the McAfee article with one from CNBC, since the McAfee was indeed trying to get you to sign up for shit.

Huh? Does that include all the dead ones? We only have 330 million Americans.

We've had our credit frozen since 2017 when Equifax fucked us all. Anytime we need credit we just do a temporary lift.

Today I learned there's 3 billion Americans. Last I checked there was a smidge over 330 million. Y'all trying to outbreed the 3rd world now?

Sorry, "every American", but 3 billion people :D

It's late man, I'm tired. Wife traveling, juggling single dad duty, being soccer dad, driving in shit traffic all afternoon while on phone with Chase fraud division was NOT fun.

What the fuck are you on right now? It just asks for first/last, and birth year, state. They had data on me from 5 states. You don't need to follow anything beyond plugging in these four things and scrolling thru the list, OR search for the last two of your social prefixed with two asterisks. Like if the last four of your social are 1234, search the page for **34 and see if any are actually you. If they are, you're in the breach data, your SSN has been exposed with your fully name, DOB and other info.

There were at least 8 or 9 records for me total, for a variety of reasons. Addresses in TX, CA, AL, FL, and GA. Some states had multiple.

Oh and it was exactly 272 million social security numbers compromised and the data breach was back in August.

I did first name, last name, state, and birth year, clicked the search button. Then it had a button that said Star Comprehensive Search Now. Clicked it. It asked for my email, then it thought I was some woman with the same first and middle initials but the last name was way off.

Tried again and didn't click the comprehensive, scrolled down and it thought I was from Dallas. Lmao I've never lived in Dallas.

So.... I guess I'm good? :notsure:

Unless someone stole your identity that lives in Dallas

If the SSN doesn’t match, no issue. If it does and other info matches, I dunno :notsure:

But that’s not the point. Over the next 3-12 months, I suspect we are going to see a LOT of identity fraud. The main point is: This would be an advantageous time for everyone, even if you’re not in the list, to freeze your credit temporarily. It’s free to freeze and unfreeze at will. But only you can freeze it. It’ll prevent any bullshit shenanigans. I am hoping this Chase card is the only thing these assholes tried to open on me. I’ve gotta spend time working on that part today, seeing how far they got, or if it was just automated, like someone has the data dump and is testing opening cards with the data. But these are all hours I’d prefer spending working on the truck you know?!

Hopefully a settlement will come out of it that puts NPD out of business and creates new laws about privacy and data collection more modern and inline with what Europe has. We are archaic with privacy in this country, to the benefit of big business. But to the point, if your name is on the list 4x, you are ripe for picking as a victim, you should probably freeze your credit. I provided the links above to all three credit reporting agencies to freeze, it’s the other thing I’m doing today.

    This shit sucks.
