Update: Just got my truck back from the dealer and the noise/excess rattle is gone. It was the same sound as the video the OP posted and same solution. Replaced rear cab mount. Thank you to the OP!

I had this exact noise coming from the bed, I could hear it when going over bumps with rear window down...

Fought long and hard with the dealership about a year ago, but they claimed they have no solution and no guidance from the corporate ... And couldn't do anything to resolve this.

The noise went away after I installed camper shell and it pressed down on the bed

Issues I have found. Which may be causing the rattle/knocking on my brand new 2024 limited trd off-road.
    • Rear window down rattles horribly
    • Tailgate is very loose/sloppy
    • The cables/support cable For the tail gate the drive side one is longer then the passenger one. I’d say by 1-2 mm. It’s loose and rattles a lot, this might actually be my source of the other rattle.
    • I seem to get a clunk every now and then, I think it might be a hydraulic cab mount similar to the OP.
What I’ve done to correct a few:
    • wrapped the mounting points for the tailgate with a piece of inner tube and used a hose clamp to help reduce the sloppiness. There is still wobble but not nearly as much.
    • Rear window it seems to be really bad 1/2way down, up Quiet as a mouse. Dealer said they all rattle, my response was does your car window rattle when it’s down, yes I am Aware they suggest on whatever page of the manual it’s not suggested to not drive with it down as it’s possible To suck In exhaust into the cab. Matters not It should not rattle.
    • he knocking I have been under investigating everything there is actually factory installed rubber gasket/pad btw my bed and the frame. Which blew my mind.

the service manager and I are going for a drive on Friday. Can’t wait for the that’s how it’s suppose to be bs they always give. For a truck labelled as off road it sure does make. A lot Of Noise, the f150 tremor I was going to buy was quiet. Drove trucks my entire life, this is the noisiest one to date. the tundra models I test drove never had these noises and I brought them to the same area.

That being said I love the truck, I tried hard to get away from a Toyota, almost bought that tremor, but the sales guy wasn’t willing to give me the out the door price(taxes in/etc). So I walked away after he told Me Nobody asks for that.

When you're driving, have someone seat in the rear seat, lower rear window down half way and have them try move around and raddle the rear window.

It's a common issue and been posted a few times on this forum. The rear window itself is usually pretty solid, the issue was the bed making rattling sounds when going over bumps... I believe that they actually released a tsb for rattling bed about few months ago.

Or maybe it's the tailgate, or something else as some trucks are experiencing different issues.

I have a rattle when the rear window is down. But it’s exactly the same sound my 2020 Tacoma made when the rear window was open. And from what I recall, EVERY Tacoma does that due to something with one of the cables connected to the rear window and it loosening slack and rattling around when the window is opened.

Just assumed it was the same deal with the Tundra.

My 24 Limited TRD OR w/ 4,000 miles just developed this last weekend, same exact noise as in the video, thanks for posting this, very helpful! Now I just need to make an appointment with the dealer and see how that goes.

should they just issue a recall for this? Seems to be common enough so we're not guessing (nor is the dealership).

I dropped off my truck at the dealer this morning for my 5K service and to have them see what the noise is, when I explained the syptoms the service writer said they had 3 others with the same or similar issue. I will report back with any other information.

Same issue on my 2 month old Tundra. This forum has really helped. Any update from Tundrum74 on how the service call went for the rattle?

I’m actually taking it back this Friday so they can further investigate, Toyota wants to remove the back seat to see if that is causing it which I highly doubt but I’ll let them do their investigation but I did tell them I suspect it’s the Hydraulic cab mounts. I’ll keep you all posted.

Thanks for the update. Similar..... I am going in on Friday and insisting they look at the hydraulic cab mounts as the issue. I showed them the video in this thread as well as it is the exact rattle I am getting. So far they have torqued the truck bed bolts, changed them out for new ones and tried changing the bolts for the cable on the hatch. None of these changes have changed the rattle it has only gotten worse.

I have the same issue as heard in the video posted by the OP. It happened after about 3000 miles and the truck has 4500 mile now. I'll schedule a 5k service soon and ask dealer to investigate.

Toyota believes my noise is coming from the rear seat belt retractor, they have ordered the part and will replace under warranty. Looks like it will take 3 to 4 weeks for the part to come in. I'll keep you posted if that was the issue on mine.

Just to throwing my experience in. Have a very similar clunk/rattle to that video, 5k miles, dealer ordered rear cab mounts. Apparently they are on national back order so it could be awhile.

Here is my update. After 3 hours and 4 techs they finally read these threads and listened to me about the cab mount. He took off the drivers side mount, test drove it and no clunk!! Showed me the mount and it had been installed offset and you could see the grove worn into it from the clunking. He put it back on and the clunking is back. They have ordered me a new one and should be installed in a few weeks.

Thanks for the update! Even though the dealer thinks it’s the seat belt retractor in my case I have a feeling they are wrong and it will wind up being the cab mounts due to the fact that I can feel a vibration along with the noise/clunk.

Sounds very similar to my sound but the dealer in my case thinks its the seat belt retractor on the rear left side. They are going to replace it and see if it fixes my issue but I have feeling it will remain. Best to just take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

Yes same sound as mine. Narrowed it down to the cab mount and physically took it out and drove with it removed and clunk went away. Also saw wear evidence on the removed mount. Not getting mine replaced until mid October, so will confirm then. Right now I am still driving with the same mount and clunking noise.

The clunking sound is so damn annoying too! I have to wait a month for the seatbelt and then when that doesnt fix it I'll have to wait for the cab mount, maybe my truck will be back to normal by the end of the year!

Not to sound negative but that sound is not coming from the seatbelt. Its too bad you have to go through that first before they fix the real issue, the cab mount. It sounds petty but I agree the clunking is annoying! Makes it feel like I am driving a beater and not a brand new truck.

I agree 100%, I think the dealer is just doing what Toyota Corporate told them
I 100% agree, I believe it is something other than the seatbelt retractor. I'll just have to wait and see. Ill keep you all posted on my progress.

Has the rattling noise returned? Or were those mounts the issue? I'm having same problem with my truck.

Has anyone recently got the can mount fix done? I was told parts are on national back order so just curious if anyone has started to get an allocation on the fix.

Thank you so much for this post.
I just emailed my dealership with this thread, the answer and photo.

I've been dealing with this rattle since day 1, I have a 2024 Tundra SR5 L. Every little micro bump on the road causes my bed to rattle, its been driving me insane. They were going to take the bed off my truck but first they just replaced some parts in my tailgate and that did nothing, so next they were going to create an open ticket with Toyota.. I just wish techs would browse forums a bit as part of their job.

Appreciate you all and I hope this helps others.

For those that have replaced the hydraulic cab mounts, do you have the part number from your repair receipt? Just curious if this was it: #51229-0C030
