I never noticed till the other day the bottom of my 11 Crewmax 5.7 hood has bare metal vs other cars or trucks that come with a heat liner attached. So is it just mine the p.o removed or does yours have a liner ??
We live NW of the Hou area and the sun & heat is brutal on car paint, got me thinking if it never had a liner it must have been really hot for the hood paint being it's sooooo faded intact and just sun / heat damaged paint. My 09 Taco was just as bad also with no liner.
All this came up cause I'm about to have the hood wrapped being the fenders and sides paint is in good condition.
We matched my Taco with a satin charcoal grey and imo in it matched 95% very well. My Tundra is the exact color dark Metallic Grey or something like that. Basically a nice charcoal grey color.

Nope. Mine never had a liner. Newer cars have them more for noise than heat.

Mines had 17 years of the desert, most of which is outside a garage and paint is still fine.

I hit the entire truck with claybar/wax once a year. Paint has held up pretty damn good.

I never understood that about deserts dry heat. We're on the Gulf Coast and the heat & humidity is spectacular*
Maybe it's the combo of heat sun & humidity idk ? The roof is super white faded. After we wrap the hood I may wrap or paint brush the roof. Won't look pretty but I'm more concerned about corrosion plus you can hardly see the roof.

Id guess the previous owner just didn't take care of the paint. Don't take much work but gotta start early and stay on it. Otherwise it’s a quick death for the clear coat in heat/sun environments.

It’s hotter than f’n hell in these parts June-early Sept…but you’re spot on, humidity is less than zero so its a little easier to take. Don’t envy that heavy air down there:D

My 2010 SR5 didn't have a liner but it made it easier to install my lights!:DResized_20240920_071326.jpg

Saw this the other day looking for sound deadening for my door panels. They have Youtube videos that show how to install it. It would definitely help stop heat transfer to the hood. R value is 4.10

Kinda hard to see it in this picture but yeah, my '18 has a pretty thick cushion or sponge like padding...

No. Bought it used from Carmax last Nov. with under 23k miles on it. The liner looks like it's factory installed. Truck was basically 100% stock when I bought it so I doubt the liner was added.

2nd gen tundras/sequoias never came with a hood liner/fire blanket.
2.5 gens aka front end refresh did.
Best bet is to add a product like DEI heat shield or equivalent.
