I have a 2021 TRD Pro and have always used 87 gas. I was at Costco last week and decided to fill up with 93 octane gas. I only half 1/4 of that tank left and still don’t see any difference in performance driving around with premium gas then I did with 87.

Because the octane doesn't affect performance. There's minor timing differences, and your truck on a dyno would pull less timing on premium according to some of the major tuners that have run them on dynos. It won't be anything big enough for your butt dyno to detect though. You'd be better served by trying to get ethanol free gas than worrying about octane.

Here in Ca. 87 @ $4.50+ why would you need to run a higher octane just get around. Run some injector cleaner every now and then and do your maintenance. Do you think they worry about that in the middle east?

It also takes time for your truck’s computer to relearn with the higher octane. Personally, I don’t think you’ll ever see any difference, but give it a few tanks and maybe even disconnect the battery if needed to reset the computer.

As @GODZILLA said, your best bet for improved performance is to put non-E fuel in your truck. That will be even more expensive than premium gas, but if you are looking for performance, give it a try.

Only way to see any benefit from 93 is if you’ve got a tune with advanced timing or are boosted. Otherwise, no sense in it.

Whatever this forum told me to do
agreed. using 93 necessitates you getting a Blower.

That’s the real answer. Get a blower!

I feel like premium does taste better, but I can't really afford it.

I noticed my 2024 Tundra was idling rough lately. I decided to try premium (here at high altitude it is 91 octane).

For three tanks of fuel now I have noticed my engine idles and runs much smoother and I have gained three mpg on all three tanks... and I am sure if this as I am OCD and keep the mpg gauge up on the dash and drive to try and improve mileage every time I drive!

I picked up my boat in Southern LA which is 380 miles from my house. At that time I had a Tacoma. I ran 1 tank of 87 and 1 of 93. Both tanks were run over interstate 4 lane hwy at similar speeds and traffic. I got 1 MPG more with 93. Wind was light but I was running north on 1 tank and west on the other. Probably had a little help from wind direction on 93. Boat is fairly heavy at 5000lbs.

I have a 21' non-pro and every tank of gas in it has been premium. The main reason for this is I really only ever drive somewhat locally, and I always fill up my truck and my gas cans at the same time. The only non-ethanol around here is premium. No clue if its better in the long run or not, but I hate ethanol gas so I'm going to continue doing it.

Opposite here. Only non-ethanol around here is 87. Ethanol is used to boost octane.
