I purchased the 7 year 100k warranty for around $1200 back in 2017 from a Toyota dealership in Michigan. Ressler wouldn’t deal at all and wanted way more $$$. I believe you can still purchase them that way but I would do some digging on this site just to be sure

hello from over the hill in Bozeman!

Right on, thanks Vendeta2k! Yes, it's shocking that the costs are so variable. I kind of want to call Toyota corporate and get their take. I've been reading about $100 charges for "diagnostic fee" if you go through a warranty from a different dealer, instead of the dealer you bought it from and end up needing to take it in. Will call Jerry Johnson in the next day or so and get the info from him, seems like most people on this site have gotten that warranty. It is essential insurance, hoping you don't need it. Curious if you have had to replace windshield on yours and if you have the exorbitant cost associate with these 3rd gen windshields requiring calibration? Do you know if the VSA you purchased through the MI dealer had glass coverage? Have you had to use it for glass coverage since you bought it?

It did not have glass. Only used it once at around 99,000 miles to get a new water pump. The old one was still good, was just starting to seep so they went ahead and replaced it. These trucks will run forever with good basic maintenance

That was another factor I'm considering. With our 2017 Subaru outback, I have gotten the oil changed religiously, followed all the recommended maintenance and it is at 100k with no issues thus far. That said, the electronics on that car are not as advanced as the Tundra. I need to follow up with this Jerry Johnson fellow in Kansas and ask about the warranty he is selling. Something like 100k mi for $2k. I'm attaching the pamphlets for the VSA offered by the dealership I bought mine from (you already named it). The price quoted was $7k. I guess I'm most concerned about electrical stuff going wrong on it and windshield damage. Maybe I'm buying too much into the scare tactics they threw at me?

Hello all and happy new year to you fellow Montanans. I hope you all survived the cold snap. The new Tundra was great even in the sub-zero temps.

Quick question for you all. I am still running the stock tires, which are the Bridgestone Dueler H/T. Do any of you run Blizzaks or Snow Claws or other specific winter tires during snow/ice season? We have had Blizzaks on our Subaru Outback and have been very happy with them. However, a friend told me that is more of an SUV tire. Your thoughts are much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Blizzack also had LT rated tires. I have run them in the winter time the last 4 -5 years, not that I need them this year apparently. I didn't think in snow/ice they would make that much of a difference on a Tundra, it is a big difference. Currently running the 33" LT Blizzacks for winter.

Can't beat a set of Blizzaks for Winter. We've been running them for years on my wife's vehicles. Swap 'em out for the Summer wheels/tires around April/May.

I just run TA KO2s year round ... I drop about 5 psi for Winter and they seem to do pretty well for the most part.

Just spent the weekend out in Whitefish. Beautiful place. Always fun seeing all the Toyotas when I go somewhere that has lots of adventures. Being used for both work and play. Not like that at all in my state of Minnesota.

    School me up folks-
    Im thinking TKO's for rubber,
Whats the story on a block heater? Did toyo figure it out? How soon is too soon to start the winterized upgrades?
Thank you in advance, i cannot put into words how excited My wife and I are to be moving back into Gods country from Olympia...

The BFG KO2s are great in the snow, and I ran Falken Wild Peaks for a few years - also very good in snow. Since my wife commutes daily, we have a dedicated set of snow wheels/tires (Blizzaks) for her 4Runner. They are amazing in the snow/ice with that softer compound. If I drove more I'd probably get the same setup.

I don't know any folks with Tundras around here that have block heaters ... I've never had the need for one (but I have a heated garage). Winters just haven't been that cold the past few years, with the exception of the occasional Arctic Blast that might last a few days. You could also run a lighter oil for the cold season ... a lot of people do that.

Thanks @Shuffler, I dropped a trailer load this weekend into storage, and drove back over today getting a "thanks for stopping by of white stuff" on MT-200 for the majority of my trek west this morning. Trailer was empty and temps were warm enough to keep it sloppy so stock tires worked splendidly. I know from a near death experience on these same tires on freshly plowed hard pack (downhill private road in Cascades), They slide. So, From june-Aug was thinking a stock wheel-tire setup, and switching to off road setup Sept-May. Will adjust as needed.

On the block heater, my concern is parking my truck outside all day for work, and January-Mar getting the best of physics.

Was back in Big Sky country this weekend, my wife organized an amazing trip for my 30th which started in Great Falls then road tripped down to Bozeman. Made me question why I ever left. Even got to rent a tundra when I was back!

A tuner from N Idaho (Big Turtle Tuning) will be in Kalispell on the 31st and I went ahead and booked an appt. A bump in HP and torque, a little better MPG, better towing, less 'gear hunting' sounds pretty good. Also said they could tune out the door/seatbelt chimes that drive me nuts. Testimonials are all positive, so I think it's worth throwing ~$600 at.

Hey folks! Billings check in here. Glad to be amongst a good group of fellow enthusiasts.

Side note: @Shuffler How did it go with turtle tuners? If you didn't get everything you're looking for especially in turning stock features on and off (IE seat belt chimes, passenger seat warning, etc. check out the bully dog tuner. It does a good number of tricks like that. I've been researching them heavily but haven't pulled the trigger due to potentially purchasing a diesel Grand Cherokee to run around in to keep miles off the Tundra.

For $500 I got well under 1mpg improvement in fuel economy. I was around 14.5 mixed hwy/city, now it's around 14.8 and that's driving like there's an eggshell under my foot. So yes, "improved fuel economy", but barely. Might be more noticeable on a stock rig with OEM wheels/tires, rake, etc.

After living with it for a while I can't really tell much difference. It's nice having the seatbelt chime silenced, and turning down the ignition/drivers side door chime. But in retrospect, the gains are so marginal that I'm underwhelmed & won't bother getting the wife's 4Runner done.
