When I did mine I wrapped a ratchet strap around the whole cap as close to the back as I could. Ratchet part inside the bed, pulled it together and used two clamps on the back section then pulled the strap back through the gap it was in, which was really tight but it all worked out. Don't think I took a picture of it but I think you get the idea.

A vans rv-6 would be a fun build
    [IMG]

A modified PA-18 cub is more my speed though
    [IMG]

Or a composite build. This is one of the few flying examples of Burt Rutan's Berkut. I built the camper using a lot of Rutans techniques.

Realistically though aviation is too rich for my blood at this point in life. Maybe someday I'll finish my license and build an airplane.

I've got a pair of opposed twin flathead b&s engines saved for an ultralight bi-plane plan.

You're still alive and perfectly capable, so clearly your life isn't squandered yet. The sky is the limit, just don't break too many laws getting airborn and you should be alright.

Niice. I miss getting out on the water with the dog. He left us a couple years back, haven't been able to bring myself to get another yet.

:woot: sold the softopper. That was fast, considering I just posted it for sale in the wee hours this morning. Dude met me at work and we settled on -$70 off my asking price. Still covered my end on the new top, gas, new keys, struts, weather stripping, and LED strips. So I'm happy and he seemed happy with the deal. I invited him to the Post Thanksgiving Run at Hidden Falls coming up.

After i crashed my RC plane, i scavenged the gas engine and wings and then bolted them to my gold pan RC10 car. It was like a having a Dumas swamp buggy with suspension, 4 wheels, and a large airplane wing. It got going pretty fast on the ground, but at about 20mph it would take flight. No imagine what a normal airplane would do without a rear tail and wings…it would crash. I pretty much gave up on the project right after i sliced the heck out of my thumb’s pad with a spinning prop. A quick trip to the ER left me with multiple stitches in my thumb. I still have the multiple scars from it close to 35 years later!

That’s one handsome looking dog there! My condolences to your friend. I’ve been there and totally understand about not being able to bring yourself to get another one.

Any of yall replaced the weatherstripping on your doors? The doors on my tundie, mainly the passenger side, have a mild shake when driving, which becomes much more noticeable going over bumpy roads or 4x4ing. The weather stripping is pretty worn all around, with it pretty much being ripped open on the entire bottom of both sides of my truck. I've also checked and with the doors closed I can push them in and basically shake the doors while they're supposed to be locked and closed. Curious if anyone has replaced it and noticed a change.

I used to be fine with it since I usually just played my tunes, sung, and cancelled it out, but I have a woman now to impress with my 23 year old shitbox(only I can say that word).

Have you checked your door bump stops?
My 03 was really annoying with all the shaky doors. Turned out I was missing two of the bump stops (the front doors have two each, I think the rears have one). Got these on scamazon for a few bucks. Made an improvement. The next thing that helped is winding a little electric tape twice around each door striker. My 03 doors don't rattle at all anymore.
If your AC windows rattle, zip tie those suckers closed with two zip ties in n an X formation over the latches.

It's not stupid if it works! Cheap redneck fixes haha.

This is why I won't buy an access cab. Regular cabs and double cabs have door jambs. Although I have never owned a Tundra AC, I'm quite familiar with similar setups on Fords and Chevies, a flimsy arrangement like "French doors" on homes. If I had such a truck I would consider permanently closing and solidifying one or both rear doors to eliminate the looseness.

For this vintage, the Tundra was the only 4 door suicide setup that received good crash test ratings.

Man my 99 Tacoma was an Xtra Cab... Not access cab, meaning no suicide doors. I get a chuckle anytime someone complains about the suicide doors, and think "Eh, it could be worse."

I noticed a rattling while driving the 02 AC. Turns out that if I grab hold of the headrest post on the passenger seat, it goes away. So, that seat appears to be the culprit. Not sure what to do about that.

After reading this, I will definitely have a look at the door bump stops as well.

The bump stops will probably be the issue here, BUT have you ever had repairs to those doors that are having the rattling issue? If not then the bump stops are what you could check first as the cheapest option (other than checking the tightness of the hinge bolts).

If it has been repaired before then it could be mis-aligned where the lock assembly and striker are not holding properly. You can test this by slowly closing the door while watching the lock assembly and striker meet. If it is mis-aligned then see if its either too high or too low. If it's too low, pull up on the door from the bottom to lift it up. If it's too high then push down on the door from the upper door frame.

Try taking electrical tape and taping the loop on the side of the rear door (that the front door catches), and the top loop on the cab. Pics in that link. It appears it was @455h0le_dachshund's suggestion originally, but it appears it worked for others too.

My 87 Toyota pickup had the "Xtra cab" too. I liked it. It gave be some leg room and a dry place to store junk. When I sold it at 160K miles the cab was still tight as new and would almost pop my ears when I slammed the door.

I just saw a set of tires and wheels for sale that will fit a 1st gen this morning. After throwing away the worn out tires (which will probably cost around $20~$40), toss out the wheel spacers like an unwanted frisbee, then you’re left spending closer to $2050 on a set of four ho-hum wheels that would probably look better on a Monte Carlo SS.
