    Hey All,

I am in the middle of deciding what to do about my headlights. They are nearly a decade old, and while they still work, their performance is kind of mediocre compared to many newer vehicles on the road. They are also looking a bit dated in shape and style. The haze on the front of the lens surely isn't helping anything.

I imagine others like me have begun researching headlight options, and after finding and endless amount of information with 32 tabs opened in Google Chrome, and your credit card held in a clenched fist, suddenly decided it better to make a decision...tomorrow.

To help ameliorate this, I thought it would be best to condense my research into one simple chart to best solve this decision.

If you have a criticism or addition to this list - please. let. me. know. I want it to be accurate.

I did not create this chart to justify or support a previous purchase, only to help myself and others pick a well informed headlight solution.

Looking at Amazon this morning and saw a new choice. They are Winjets. I like design better than Spyders and supposedly the levelling motors work with them. Separate low/highs makes me a little skeptical. They come with halogen bulbs but since they are projectors so i am sure you add LEDs.

They look nice but unfortunately they appear only for 3rd Gens like yours at this time.

They definitely do. I hope some cheaper clones fit for retrofitting start popping out soon.

I’m literally dying a slow death researching this stuff. I’ve been all over tundra sites and lighting companies. Even paying $450 to the retrofit source for quality parts doesn’t get me a headlight; I still need to find / pay a retrofitter... I’d love to do a retro myself but just have zero time. I think the sequoia option is the best but can’t justify $1690 for headlights on an ‘08... so I’m thinking one of two things. 1) polish the stock lens, buy an LED bulb, and pray or 2) look thru countless sequoia pics to find a year/trim headlight that might fit and ask around for a harness that might work.

Can’t do HIDs without a projector lens right? So the $69 HID conversion kit on toytec would still require a retrofit to projectors?

That is a great write up. I have been looking at replace, retro fit myself or spend the $$’s to have someone else do it for me. In the end I desired to do it myself but then you end up with having to do it over a weekend and you don’t have headlights in your rig so you’re screwed and in a rush, right? Checking prices for a retro that one would like you end up around $500-$600 give or take which sets you up with a high end set of light that look great and perform and those of us that drive at night want that. Now we are back at time which there never seems to be enough of, also the want to use OEM because we all know there is quality involved. Since I have little time to sit down and just do this on a weekend and I want OEM to stay pretty much intacted I looked around for a cheap OEM replacement headlights and put those on my truck while I’m working on the stock lights. I found some on the cheap for $85 from a sale that was going on at WalMart of all places. I haven’t felt rushed in my retro build since I’ve never done something like this before and I’m still able to use my truck when I want. As for buying a replacement headlight that almost fits what you want is a waste of money in my mind when you can purchase all parts and build exactly what you want, build it yourself and learn in the process. Tools required to do this would cost penny’s in comparison and so far it’s been fun. Once you start looking through all the options that you have to come up with the look you want is when you run into the conundrum all over again is that there is so many option (holly hell) here we go again. But so far I’ve been working on these for 3 weeks and still not done but I certainly am not rushed. My 2 cents worth, whoever jumps into these try and make it enjoyable and in the end you get to tell people that you did the work on those and it’s not a company taking the credit for your personnel touch on a truck that we love.

I'm hoping TRS comes out with a plug and play LED option for us. they just released gen 3 for $1290 plug and play.
still cheaper than going the Sequoia route which is about $2K when all said and done.

Done. But I called them today and the conversation wasn’t promising on a gen 2 plug and play anytime soon.

TRS got back to me. They’d charge somewhere around $1200 for a set of built plug n play headlights. Didn’t get to a possible discount if we had a large enough group buy.

Decided for the near term to pick up a set of Morimoto 2Stroke 2.0s for the low beams. Black Friday had them at $90 from lightwerkz. Haven’t put them in yet but will write an opinion once that is complete. Gonna see if I can avoid pulling the headlights out since the 2.0s are quite small.

This is helpful! Mine have some of the haze as well, and I have been using the 3M restoration kit about every year or 2 to clear them back up. Looks awesome when they are done, like new. I love the look of those Spyders and Anzo's, but there just seem to be a lot of negative reviews concerning the light output vs factory. I wouldn't mind paying the money for those but not at the expense of the output being worse.

Is there a write up on here somewhere on what all is involved with the "retrofit"? Or a link about what all is involved? Have been seeing it mentioned periodically but feeling clueless, having never upgraded headlights before. Very interested in upgrading our 07, but within reason. (way under $1k, the more under the better) :)

In the case of headlights it appears to be a very clear cut of getting what you pay for.

If you have no idea on what kind of options you can have done in a retrofit, you can play with the options in Kustom54s website to see just how extensive it can be. You will notice how quickly the costs add up.
    http://kustom54lighting.com/07-13-Toyota-Tundra-Retrofit-_p_125.html
Note: Never used him, and cannot speak to his quality.

Having never upgraded your headlights, and given your budget constraints, I think you'd be best served by BHLM on OEM and call it a day. <$500

Here are the Morimoto 2.0s. Before (halogen) and after. Camera on manual so exposures are the same. A little more scatter above than before but not much (you can see the blue tape where I marked each hotspot and each side’s upper “cutoff” from the original halogens).A5D3EAAB-882D-46BA-BA7D-0A918CC1767B.jpg

Newer than the Morimoto 2.0 2Strokes? Still eyeing that Seqouia option but at $1600... I do like the Morimotos though. As a comparison, I’m about to replace the stock projectors in my 2018 4Runner because they are RIDICULOUSLY weak - like it shouldn’t pass a safety check weak - and every time my wife drives the Tundra with these 2.0s she’s reminded of what being able to see in the dark is like.

I'm going to bring this back up. If you're still looking for some great aftermarket headlights @alpharex has some nice updated headlights. Well priced at $325 to $385 depending on what you want. For the 2nd gen they DONT have the levelers on them (yet) believe they are working on putting them on those. The highbeam is a built in led and the lowbeam is a h7 halogen. The 3rd gen 14+ are priced about the same and do come with the levelers. These are both called the (Pro Series) and they have another model out called the (Nova Series) which is a full led version. Is there a way to fit 3rd gen headlights on 2nd gen?

Side note, I plan on getting my 2nd gen painted in the future so if there’s a way to do a whole front end conversion to 3rd gen I would go that route. (I did this with my old Silverado and was curious if this was an option with the tundra)

I’m going to jump into this thread as my 2010 lights are done. In a few years - 5 - since this thread
really added anything. Morimoto and AlphaRex are now the top contenders. I’ve not looked at the
Sequoia upgrade. Just not interested in buying new panels below the headlights. This costs enough as it is. The Morimoto now run $1075 and $1125 depending on Amber or White DRL. They offer sequential turn signal thru the DRL light. Morimoto come with 5 yr warranty as of now. I’ve looked at
the AlphRex. They have a projection LED and are within $100 of the Morimoto. Their reduced warranty is only 2 yrs from what I’ve read. So I’m waiting for sale but rather than continually complain about headlights coming at me and not being able to see in traffic I’m getting the Morimoto since I think they are the best of the three main options as of now.

Form Lighting seems the current best option. $1k gets Sequoia style with harness and panels.

Show where it can be done for $1K? From what I’ve seen it’s much more than that by the time it’s all done.
I look the straight lens look always as well.
