If you want to fall down the AFT rabbit hole, BITOG forum is where you can get lost for days... weeks... months... whatever your heart desires. ATF WS is going to cost more, but not much more IME. But I wasn't trying to turn this in to an ATF thread; those will burn down a website in no time flat. Haha.

Is it full synthetic? I seem to recall that being a rumor.. Or maybe that was Aisin AFW+ or something.

Edit - Specs look almost identical to WS with a thinner (better..) Brookfield at -40C.

I'll only run the top three WS fluids. Toyota WS, Idemitsu or AISIN. I usually get Idemitsu locally at Napa for a decent price.

It's all related to the supercharger. The SC adds stress to all related components. We need to address those short comings. All info is pertinent and from other platforms. Learn from those before us and those that innovate. Got lots of great info on creating my own engine oil weights rom that site.

The fact this thread is recently capturing transmission failures in a previously believed to be bullet proof power train is extremely relevant and I think this has been a recap of the hundreds of threads about the hypothetical failures (dare I mention the cooler or not discussion?). Not sure this is a side track at all because of that.

It'll be interesting to start a tracker of those who failed, their mileage, use cases and amount of boost they're running. Maybe tire size and gearing since that adds to stress? It would be interesting if it gave some useful data points for people to plan for as they head down the FI path. Knowing there's potentially another $6-8k upgrade coming at some point in the future is something people likely want to know.

It's these discussions that keep me in this thread.

    :crapstorm:

I only run Valvoline maxlife because

    it's cheap
    it's fully synthetic
    it's at walmart
    and it's WS compliant.

I started D&F's at 25k - and have only used Valvoline.

    does this prove anything?.....No.

I truly believe Trans fluid is easy to overthink.
    buy what you like....use it.

if one of y'all can make a trans fluid that does not smell like cat piss, I'd buy it simply based on that factor.

FTR - I run my trans cooler pinned open. The pan stays around 160-170 no matter what.

The Max Life is group III, just like T-WS, T-IV, Aisin AFW+, and many more. The oil-club.ru link above has all the tests, including FTIR Spectroscopy. It dispels lots of info claiming various brands are true synthetics.

While this is pertinent info for Supercharged apps, it would likely be better to start a transmission thread discussing it.

Well, here she is. They got 6” of snow today so they’re a little behind schedule. Sounds like install will be today or tomorrow. Still tracking Tuesday 6am pickup.

It's the Bulletproof Build for Towing/Supercharged applications. I believe good for 800, but double checking that right now.

I will see which mine is. So long as there is no drivability difference, I'm hoping it's the beefier version so I never have to worry about this again.

Yea- my plans to do the 1khp unit after my work trip first of December. Got a handful of other shit arriving for the truck so no real rush for me to have it back up and running.

I know...I'm just paranoid from my first transmission when I did a drain and fill with the maxlife.

RockAuto has Aisin ATF0WS for $7.38 a quart. If I am correct, it is a full synthetic; whether that is Group III or Group IV, I'm not sure. That whole M1/Castrol debacle means Group III qualifies as synthetic in the states.

I refilled with Idemitsu 2 years ago when I was last in the trans for a S4 solenoid. Functions identical to my normal WS refills.

@reywcms so it is the 1000hp build. they spec the build as 700hp towing because of the added stress while towing 10k but without towing it’s 1000hp. So it’s the highest spec they do. Should be stout!
