Trying to wrap up a head unit install. Purchased the ASWC-1 and 70-8114 units. The 70-8114 appears clearly that it is mis-pinned relative to my factory harness. The ASWC-1 is flashing red/green indicating that it is getting power but can not communicate with the head unit. Harnesses all soldered and shrink wrapped correctly.

I know we have a lot of aftermarket headunit installs here. Anyone ever deal with this and any ideas on how to re-pin either harness? the connectors and pins are small and the de-pinning how tos ive seen on youtube are using much larger and different styles of connectors that we have here.

There is a thread on here about how to re-pin. I’ll try to find in a sec. It’s a manufacturing defect with Metra.

Also if you are using a JVC or Kenwood stereo you MUST use a special process. It’s outlined in this thread for the Axxess ASWC: https://www.tundras.com/threads/1st-gen-steering-wheel-radio-phone-controls-info-dump.131492/

    Thank you @shifty`

I’ve never re-pinned harnesses before so off to the jungle website to buy new tools. The pins in these connectors are very small and I doubt I can get at them with hair pins or any other little tricks I’ve seen on google.

As far as the wiring the unit I’m putting in was gifted to me, one of the Amazon chinesium units. Instructions are very clear for the swc adaptors, they actually provide specific instructions for the aswc-1. The unit has 2 universal wires to connect to the headphone jack that I have confirmed were wired correctly.

Unit powers on, and audio is all working correctly. ASWC-1 has power and indicator lights, just not linking up to the head unit or steering wheel. Will report back my results today after attempting to re pin

I typically can use a jewelers screwdriver, sometimes a paperclip or sewing needle, to de-pin. To rein I like to put the connectors together partially so I can see which slot is correct for insertion, avoid doing it twice. If you bought from Crutchfield as many of us do, they’ll send you a new one that’s been fixed. It’s why I never buy electronics on scAmazon if crutchfield has it, they’re often same price or cheaper, and their support/return process is unbeatable. I want to say it was @daveeasa eho shared great tricks on here once for depinning…
