I know is a long shot but I need a good body shop in Lubbock to fix my son Tundra. He managed to hit a deer last night in his way back to school.

    Thanks

Can you get the truck up to Amarillo? There's a few really good ones I know of here.

Probably not. I had it towed last night from De Leon to Lubbock and now I am with the insurance adjuster trying to figure out shops and stuff. Thanks much for the offer.

Had to be towed? Guess it turned out worse than we were all hoping. Best of luck on repairs.

Yeah he drove it for few miles but then the engine started to overheat and pulled over immediately. No visible engine damages or noises but something is up. He couldn't open the hood to check as it was stuck so is hard to tell what was going on there.

Thanks for asking. Yeah he is good, in middle of his finals now. I am handling the repair and he is totally hands off as I want him to focus on school.

One thing you could try and I am not saying it will always work:
See if you have roadside assistance on your auto insurance.
If yes, call and ask them how many miles do they cover.
Then figure out if towing it again to Amarillo since there might be some good shops for suggestions @bmf4069

I did this with my Geico last year, they were very accommodating about it, just be nice and ask.

Once this is all said and done and if you don't have roadside assistance, consider adding it in for the next policy.
I think even premium is only like $10/6 month, which is really nothing is you think about it, but will save you a headache if you need to tow it.

    Good idea.

You can also double dip - insurance roadside assistance & some credit cards also have it as a concierge service (AMEX). If you're a member of AARP I think they have it too.

I'm more than willing to help if you can/do take that route. Amarillo is 100 miles from Lubbock.

I get the whole assurance of referrals thing, but there no way an insurance company is going to pay to tow a truck 100 miles to a smaller city because of that. Nor should they.

I grew up in Lubbock, but unfortunately don't have any recommendations. There absolutely are many options that will get it taken care of though.

They don't need to know why you need the tow, only the vehicle would not move, I need it to move to X from Y.
I did that last year when my Pilot broke down on the side of the highway, 84 miles from Albuquerque and Geico informed me that my policy allows 12 miles of free tow (or was it 14?)
But it being 12/23 and after 6PM, with kids on the car, the agent took 5 mins and got his supervisor's approval to eat the total cost of tow from breakdown location to a dealer.
The next day I found out the dealer was closed, call Geico again to request another tow to a better part of town due to fear of car vandalism, Geico agreed and sent another tow truck, I end up having the tow truck store my care on their impound lot, Geico paid the first day storage and I paid the rest, I think 6 or 7 days, I paid $120 or so.

I am not saying to cheat the system and all that, just giving some ideas about how to get around a situation, maybe @JohnWhicker don't have any of the above, so null the conversation, but just some ideas to think on.
I think he wants it done up north is because his son is there, so to drag it back to Houston to fix and back up to his kid would be a logistic nightmare, but last resort might have to.
Fixing it locally would make more sense....

"Yes, hello adjuster! The truck is currently in Lubbock, the largest city in the Panhandle/West Texas area, I would like it towed 100 miles north to the smaller town of Amarillo because a random person on an internet forum said there was a good body shop up there!" :monocle:

I'm making assumptions, but to me it's pretty clear that his kid goes to Texas Tech or maybe South Plains. So the truck is currently in the city where he attends school. I don't think anyone was saying to do anything shady or fraudulent, just the assertion that there aren't body shops in Lubbock that can handle the job perfectly fine is a little silly.

Your situation seems completely legitimate, broke down in the middle of nowhere, and then moving again for safety reasons.

The truck was towed 195 miles to Lubbock and I am glad I had AAA that covers towing up to 200 miles. The truck is going today to Crash Champions in Lubbock to be fixed, insurance paper works and estimate done, and kid will pick up a rental from Enterprise.

Thanks y'all for your concerns, help and great guidance :)
