So I'm on page 11,860 of the Tundra Service & Repair Manual and I noticed how it only states to "install new gasket and water pump"...but it doesn't state anything about using a liquid gasket.

I'm just making sure...I don't need a liquid gasket, right? Just use the water pump gasket?

I'd be more than happy to post the 218MB Tundra Service & Repair Manual PDF...but I'm not sure if I'd be breaking some policy or something by the company. Also, I'm posting the TQ specs for the bolts to help out those who will need to do one in the future.

I'll be replacing the water pump in about 2 weeks. Just doing my research now.

Unless it's rubberized, I spray all of the gaskets edges with spray copper coat. Basically any paper or cork gasket gets sealed on all edges. 10 years out and nothing is seeping/weeping.

I've replaced water pump twice, no liquid gasket required. No leaks.

Your welcome. The gasket is metal with another thin rubber like material. See pic.

I'm a 30 year mechanic and it's always safe to apply a thin coat of high temp silicone to any water pump gaskets this almost guarantees no leaks when your done ..it also helps hold the gasket in place when reinstalling...nothing worse than missing a gasket bolt hole and having a leak when your done ....

Good luck! This job is a PITA! Might as well replace the serpentine belt while you're at it. Check the radiator for leaks, too, because it also inevitably needs replacing and it's easier to do at the same time.

Lol man this job was a walk in the park when you have done the starter for the 5.7l. A walk in the park....that starter was a excercise in all kinda things.

I think the 4.7 takes the cake for the starter job; it’s under the intake

I don’t know - I think I’d rather pull the intake than the exhaust manifold like is recommended for the UR engines. There is a solid chance we will eventually get to do both.

Oh no oh no no no.... The 4.7 is a cake walk when compared with the 5.7. I did both and by far the more pain in the ass ins the 5.7. It's a PITA for sure. I would never want to do it again.

Yeah 5.7 you just about need to have the trans and exhaust off to replace.
