Would this make the transmission fluid pump work harder, and potentially reduce the pressure since it's adding one more filter on the way?

And, what are we trying to fix here?

Is this something can be installed in line on the fluid lines going to the front mount cooler? I’m curious about it. What else can you tell us?

I had my pan down the other day and I never thought about adding additional magnets. My pan hold 3 tiny magnets. They measure probably about 1x1/2 and about 1/8 thick. Magnet are pretty easy to buy and just drop the pan and put them in there. I do have a couple of 8x4 inch 1/2 thicker plate magnets, lol, probably an overkill. But you get the point. My magnet did have some stuff on them at 47k when I dropped the pan. Come to think of it, I can just stick the big magnet to the outside of the pan bottom, that magnet is powerfull an I would imagine it would get the particles stuck to the bottom of the pan.

Yes, possible. On wife's Sequoia I installed it in the cooler's return line:

My Tundra does not provide such an easy access to the radiators, I'm slacking. Can wait till spring, when plastic tabs are less brittle.

Yes. It is for A/C. Sequoia's A/C is stronger than in Tundra. Especially in traffic on a hot day.

Yes I installed one on my 2nd gen. The magnefine filters the tranny fluid and has a magnet, unlike the screen in the tranny housing. Adding one on the way to the cooler like VTL did is how a lot of the 2nd gen folks did it.

See the below pic from a tranny fluid change post reminded me that this could be a good place to put one inline with the tranny cooler on the 3rd gen.

I did that to our Tacoma after I forgot to put the little magnets in after reinstall of pan. I bought a pack of super strong silver dollar sized rare earth magnets and put them on bottom of the pan where indentations of small magnets went. These magnets are very strong and will pop your fingers trying to remove them from one another. Tested on washing machine lid and magnetism pull was strong on other side.

I know it's not the transmission pan but this is what I did after doing my first oil change at 262 miles. Just did my second yesterday at 3686 miles. Pulled the magnets before draining and put them in my drain pan to catch whatever came out, nothing considerable to speak of. Also put 2 of the same magnets on the oil filter end, need to cut open the filter to see what's in there, fingers crossed.

Problem with that is that drain is elevated. Whatever the magnets attract will stay on the bottom since the drain isn't further down or to the side like the engine oil plug. Only way to see what the magnets have attracted is to drop the pan. Same goes for the transmission pan. But it's definitely a good idea since it will attract metal and keep it from circulating.

Well, bought the Magnefine in 3/8" fittings and spliced it into the tranny cooler line today. I was going to do it in the engine bay but there really is no room to work there. It was much easier going under the truck and tapping into the cooler line going to the front cooler. I did it on the supply line because my truck only has 11K on it.

    Here is what you need:

Hose clamps from Amazon that provide a 360 Degree compression
3/8" tranny cooler line. I used Evil Energy line from Amazon
    Magnefine 3/8" Filter
1/2" Hose line to protect the 3/8" return line coming back into the tranny.

I used the 1/2" line to wrap the return tranny cooler line so it would not rub on the Magnefine filter.

The filter sits above the frame rail in front of it, so possibly hitting the filter is avoided. My truck has the factory 3" lift, so I have more clearance than most.

Did you add any trans fluid after installing the filter? I'm not sure how picky the trans is on levels.

I think that’s a good spot to install the filter. The ATF comes out of the transmission converter and into the inline filter. When it comes time to replace the ATF, open that line after the filter and drain from that point. This way your getting the used ATF from the transmission converter.

    Nope. No fluid add.

So when you disconnect the factory line, only the fluid came out of that rubber 3/8" line. It was only a small amount. The metal line running to the tranny cooler retains the fluid in it.

It took me about an hour because it is freezing here and the lines were not very pliable in the cold weather.

Does this filter have a bypass if flow stops like oil filters? I guess at that point the trans is dead anyway.

For the 2nd gen guys, mounting on the heat exchanger line is only partially filtering only if the thermostat is open (unless pinned open).

might have to pick one up. Doing a 12qt drain and fill and would be nice to keep this fluid as clean as possible
