    Hey everyone!

new here, got a question regarding to the engine replacement on my 2022 tundra. My truck has been sitting on the lot waiting for the engine replacement, finally got it in and they replaced it but apparently it doesn’t come with gaskets replacement? Does that sound right? I’ve called another dealership nearby and they told me the new engine doesn’t shipped with the gaskets, it will be all separate. Seems a little iffy to me, especially if they put the new engine in and used my old gaskets from the old engine to do the test drive on it. If you have any experience regards to the engine replacement, I’d greatly appreciated if you can shed some insight. Thank you everyone!

Is the dealer suggesting you are responsible for the cost of said gaskets? What gaskets are they referring to?

What "gaskets" are you talking about?

That would be the mother of all screwups if they did that

I guess I’m not understanding your question.

The dealer should have performed the engine replacement per the Technical Instructions for the campaign that you linked.

Are you saying the the dealer told you they did not replace gaskets related detailed in the TI or there were “other” gaskets not replaced?

Also, is the dealer charging you for any of this service?

I would say the gaskets were lost in shipping or they come on a separate shipment or are just stocked for these assemblies. In other words they are lying to you because someone screwed up.

The service advisor pulled it up from the computer to show me and it’s like 4-5 gaskets, I should’ve taken a picture of it but I didn’t. As far as I know I won’t be charged anything except the seat cracks which I was expecting because it’s out of warranty. I tried calling another dealership as well and their service manager said the engine assembly does not come with gaskets and it’s a separate shipment apparently. Just wanted to see if that’s the truth or not

Document the occurrence. Is there a paper trail showing what was not replaced?

Sounds like the service advisor openly admitted to not correctly performing the procedure. They should have waited until all of the parts were available. I’d say bring the issue up with the service manager.

Yes all via text messages as well as the work order. I figured as much, unfortunately I wasn’t the one talking to the service advisor. My wife was reaching out while I was out for work. At first he said it was done and she can come pick them up whenever, then half an hour later he replied back saying he was misinformed and that the engine assembly got swapped, but still waiting on the gaskets and therefore it’s not ready yet. Sound extremely sketchy to me

sounds like a typical dealer - no clue and flying by their pants. Take a pic of post #3 with you when you go in = ask them to show you what they have ordered - check it against the noted post - then decide your next steps. Better yet - find another dealer - one that has actually done many replacements for the Gen3.

Nah not sketchy, engine and gaskets probably arrive at different times as noted in PDF doc. All connection points requiring gaskets should be easily accessible. Perhaps Tech was leaning forward by reusing old gaskets to ops check everything else. If I had to do this job on my dime I would reuse everything serviceable except AC O-rings. Gasket kit should probably be on Bench Stock instead of ordering for every truck.

Unfortunately they won’t let me take the vehicle due to “reliability issues” so I guess I’ll have to keep waiting and keep checking back to see when it’s finally showed up.

That would makes sense about op-test part. I would assume it’s all varies on time when the gaskets coming in? They told me the beginning of this week that it would be here sometimes this week but yet here we are. And when I asked about any tracking information was basically told “we don’t have any tracking information, they just show up when they do”

If you don't mind, please post your engine replacement experiences on this thread. Be sure to indicate what dealership you are using.

    Thanks.

So the truck isn’t done yet. So as I’m understanding this, service advisor gave you an update while they are still waiting on parts -or- realized he spilled the beans and they’re waiting on parts to do the job correctly.

By admitting to performing a recall campaign inconsistent with the TI, he exposed the dealership to a lot of potential liability.

From a business/efficiency perspective, it makes no sense to begin the job without the parts on hand. To replace and road test the engine using old parts, then replacing those parts later cost the dealer money, and is generally not a good practice.

Sounds like they were trying to get ahead of supply chain delays by cutting corners… then realized they got caught.

Funny thing is I’m the only vehicle left for the recall. They’ve done the other 5 batches already, I was the last one from this batch of replacement they’re doing. So I’m not sure why keeping me in the dark in the first place. They also took my truck in and kept it the whole time instead of running my vin and ordered everything first before calling me back to schedule my replacement.
