Today I had to put my truck in 4 WD to get out of my driveway cause of snow. The problem is when I went to go back into 2 we it just kept blinking. It took me over a minute for it to go back into 2wd. I switched the knob back to 4wd then back again and finally it wen5 to 2 wd. I don’t use 4wd often maybe only two times this year. Is there any5hing I can do to fix this issue

You need to engage/exercise 4wd every so often to keep it functioning well.

That’s normal, the truck protects itself from engaging/disengaging. You usually have to be flat idling or flat sub 50mph at low rpm and it’ll switch in 30-60 seconds. Turning/inclines/declines/rpm seems to delay the switch. I use mine daily for work and play, you have to be strategic on when to flip it.

You should be putting it into 4hi monthly for a few miles on a straight road during a regular drive.

All three of my trucks I finding backing up disengages 4wd much more easily than forward.

Your owner’s manual says to drive 10 miles every month in 4x4 to keep the system functioning properly.

    20 miles a month? I don’t do ten miles a month
I think 5he electronics suck nothing but problems. A I had a 94 Chevy and never had a problem even when I junked it ( rust got the better of the truck);the 4wd worked flawless. But I will try to engage mine a few times a month

Worked at an aluminum mill in WV. They had a Bronco that was used primarily for clearing snow. Old style 4wd. 4WD went out. After repair it had a sticker on dash stating that this vehicle must be driven x miles in 4wd monthly. It was important even in the old days. I have owned 4x4s since early 80s and always tried to use monthly.

I usually throw mine in drive a few feet and reverse a few feet and that does the trick when it’s being bitchy.

Also worked on the old manual locking hubs. Friend drove his 70 something F150 on pavement in 4wd. When we stopped the hubs would not unlock. Driving in reverse fixed it.

Likely nothing to do with not using it frequently, but more to do with shifting in/out of your part time 4wd with drivetrain binding as a result of turning. Part time systems only like to go in or out when the truck is / has been going straight long enough for any rotational inequity between axels to equalize and not be under load.

Lube it or lose it! Gotta engage it every once in a while.

The actuator motors on the transfer case and front differential need to be worked or they will seize up. It’s not so much a distance requirement but rather just the act of engaging 4H, then 4L then back to 2H. Do this little exercise twice a month and you will be trouble free.
