I performed the fuel density relearn but the last time I checked the percentage range it showed 67%. Is this a normal range now?

Assuming you are using E0 or E10 gasoline, the percentage should be much lower.

    You’re confusing octane with ethanol.

the procedure calls to reset the fuel density and immediately add at least 3 gallons of fuel and drive the vehicle for at least 15 minutes to complete the relearn procedure.

You should see alcohol % below 20.

I’ll check with the scanner again when I get home and report back. Thanks for clearing that up. I got mixed up on the octane thing.

I just check it again and it’s 64.7%. I tried accessing the special function menu for restring the parameters and I don’t see an option for Toyota. In fact, the scanner fails to detect my vin when I go to the reset menu and select auto scan. Upon entering the vin manually it gives a message saying that function is not available. Maybe you can walk me through getting to that setting? There’s a YouTube video but the instructions it walks you, the options it takes you through are not showing on this scanner. It’s the global version not the US version. Would that be the problem?

I purchased the Launch X431 CRP919E as discussed in the very first post of this thread. It is the global version. The instructions provided in that post were enough for me to reset the fuel alcohol density. All of the updates to the scanner software/firmware had to be completed before it would work correctly.

In the notes that I put in the scanner case for future reference:
Diagnose --> Toyota --> Auto Search --> ECMECT System --> Special Functions --> Fuel Density Learning Value Reset

I don't recall whether VIN was auto selected or if I had to manually input.

For my truck, It auto detect the vin. However, for my buddy truck we have to manual input.

This is the step I did for mine for Launch X431 CRP919E

Do the update on the Launch
    Plug into Tundra (truck running)
1 Select Intellegent Diagnose (detect vin)
    2 select Diagnostic
3 select 16Pin DLC (North America)
    4 Select System Selection
    5 SL All system
    6 SL ECMECT
7 SL Read Data Stream (verify Density level)
    8 SL special Function
9 stop engine but Ignition on then select Fuel Density Reset
10 Start engine and SL Read Data Stream (verify Density level is zero).

Figured this out. The maestro I have installed for my head unit was interfering with communications. Had to bypass the plug and switch off the OBD usage in the head unit. Fixed the issue entirely along with issues I was having with hptuners and tech stream.

So I let the auto vin detection run, but then it pulls up a screen to choose manual select or ok. I hit ok, then it does a health report. After that I don’t understand how I’m supposed to get to the menu options you detailed.I hit the back arrow, then there’s a list which I choose ecmect from the choices. Now there’s only these options, read fault code, clear fault memory, read data stream, and actuation test. I choose read data stream and select alcohol density estimate which it shows to now be 75.6%. I can’t find special function choice to continue your instructions. If I go back to home and select reset, I’m given some choices but none that say ecmect. The closest thing I see is A/F reset to set or learn air/fuel rate parameters but Toyota is not in the list. Am I supposed to pay for a subscription to have those options to choose from?

This definitely does not look like my scanner. What model are you using? Mine is the X431 CRP919E Lite. I’m about ready to send it back to Amazon. I already sent back one that was a newer model. I’ll probably get a stocking fee for the first one as well as this one, but if I can’t rest te alcohol level then it doesn’t do me much good.

thanks for the video! I received the Launch 431 yesterday from Amazon and followed your steps along with @helidave post from last July. Extended crank is now gone after initially reading 84%.

how often do you all have to reset the alcohol system?

Mine started again 2 years after the stealership initially did the TSB. I’ve been running non ethanol gas which has helped. Its been sluggish starting up when cold with that gas and 2 days ago I put a full tank of non ethanol gas and sure enough the next day (yesterday) leaving work I had an extended crank twice.

I've had my ethanol start reading high after one drive and I've had it hold steady for months. I check it every once in a while and reset it if needed.

So I bought this one too on ebay (recommend from member)and test it out. https://www.ebay.com/itm/204596779661 Way cheaper , See video https://youtu.be/GL8Ua48PV3U

    Here are the steps:

Diagnostic, 16pin other, Tundra ,year model, System, powertrain, ecmect, read data stream, check these boxes - alcohol density estimate, long FT B1S1 & B2S1, click ok and it’ll split screen all three
that gets you to the point to read the values, then there's an option to "alcohol density learning". I think this mode will reset it to Zero. Mine was at Zero already so I cant confirm

My FT B1S1 & B2S1 is at 1.5 and 3.2 I think that is normal. If there any expert here. Please let me know

Thanks guys for posting all this information! I picked up the Launch Creeder for Toyota and its was very simple to get it updated, connect to the truck, and run the reset.

Truck starts better, runs better, seems to have helped improve mpg, and the white smoke I was getting on start up is gone.

Figured I'd try this before wasting time at a dealership and this really was easy.

Which model and where, link? Thanks.

I've sadly rejoined the club this morning. Extended crank/rich on start up. Funny, truck said 48° this morning. Chevron 87 only.

It's been 4yrs since the dealer installed my 46g Transfer Flo tank, new pump and did the TSB under warranty. :(
