Interested to hear how this can be repaired in the driveway for under $100? From prior post, it took a Toyota tech 8 hours. I saw the extent of engine dismantling to fix my issue. It's a significant undertaking, parts everywhere - sure didn't seem like a driveway job to me. Definitely not a $100 repair. Frankly I was glad to see a couple repair costs around $1k.

All it takes is a handful of metric tools and some patience. Nothing difficult about it from everything I’ve seen and read. A tube of FIPG (in my tool box from doing the timing belt on the sequoia) some coolant and intake gaskets are the only materials needed.

The timing belt on a 2uz is also about 8 hours of time - doesn’t mean you can’t do it in your driveway for the cost of a couple beers.

Almost certain my 2016 with 107,000 miles is leaking from the valley heat exchanger, but need to do a pressure test for sure. Is the Toyota FIPG sealant being used when repaired ? Wondering since this is not uncommon and if there is a better sealant..

There is a better sealant - it’s pricey. Most people just use the Toyota black since it’s $15 instead of $100 but if I ever have to tear into one I’d probably use the expensive.

Started on this project on my 08 Sequoia with 335k on the clock. Pulled the manifold tonight to find the standard mouse nest and coolant leak in the same spot making a nice slurry of mouse crap. For anyone doing this job, grab a pick and bend it like shown to get the wire harness clips off in short order.

Wish I had the knowledge and balls to take on an effort of this magnitude. Well done as far as I can tell....so far. Merry Christmas!

Finished it up tonight, really it was a DIY job and not that difficult for anyone with experience turning a wrench. I used The Right Stuff for sealant in the the handy quick dispenser bottle, I can assure you that the $100 tube of 1282b is not magical. I also pressure tested the system before putting it back together just in case I messed up. The only "gotcha" moment I had was trying to get the bolts back in the air injection valves, those metals gaskets have little tabs that are razor blades, I sliced my thumb pretty good on one. For those looking at the DIY's for the 460's and other chassis, while similar, the Tundra/Sequoia 3UR is much easier to work on. I would rate this as a 2 banana job all day. Even if you had to buy a bunch of tools you could still save yourself $1000 doing this yourself.

Looks like I’m the next contestant on the valley coolant leak show. I’m considering doing the repair myself.

Any chance you could share a parts list breakdown of what’s needed? My truck is a 2016 with 219k on the clock. If there’s any other low hanging fruit you’d suggest I replace while I’m in there, I’m all ears.

Sorry for the potential newb request. I’ve got roughly 2 months on tundra ownership under my belt.

Sorry, just seeing this. You don't need much:

Left and Right side intake manifold gaskets Part No.: 17171-0S030, Part No.: 17171-0S010
    2x water pipe o-ring Part No.: 96761-35031
1 can of Right Stuff Black (not the factory recommended sealant 1282B 08826-00100, but this works well)
    3 gallons Toyota coolant

That water pipe o-ring part number isn’t showing as a match for my truck? Is that correct for the 5.7 flex fuel?
Is the 7oz can of Right Stuff enough?

My truck has 220k miles on it. No issues beyond the suspected coolant valley leak. Is there anything else you’d change out/swap while you’re in there doing the reseal?

I would absolutely order parts off your specific vin number just to be safe. One can if Right Stuff is plenty.

All the pink stuff that should only be on the inside but that’s on the outside is a pretty good indication.
