Noticed some oil drops lately under the truck. I used to only see them after a long trip (4+ hours), but they seem to be more frequent. Crawled under the truck and noticed a significant leak from what seems to be the rear main seal. Not sure if it is coming from the top of the engine. When I did the plugs at 120k I did notice oil on the plugs so I believe the VCG is leaking. I know I have the cam tower leak but have not noticed any visible oil from those areas.

Regular oil changes at 5k miles with Mobil 1 0W-20.

Planning to take it to the dealer, but not sure what to expect in terms of pricing and time to fix or if I should just let it ride, monitoring the oil levels.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks for your help.

I’d try thicker oil before I threw money at a leak.

I'd throw some brake cleaner on that and check it next weekend to make sure it not cam tower or somewhere else

I'll tell you exactly what fixed mine. I had the same question on this forum.
Put in a new PCV valve. I did that and no more leak. None, Zero, Zilch

Change it anyway. Any crankcase pressure can start pushing oil from other places. They say to change them about every 50k miles.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the delayed response, I didn’t get a notification of any responses.

I’ve ordered a new PCV valve and I’m going to try that. Worth a shot for a $10 part. Randomly, I started parking the other direction on our sloped driveway with the engine uphill, and did not notice any oil leaks on the ground below the truck. Parked it the other way yesterday with the engine facing downhill, and I’m seeing spots again. Not sure if this has anything to do with anything.

Something I’ve seen previously is leaks from the o ring at the bottom of the dipstick, could this be a path to go down?

I’ve debated switching to 5W-30. My manual says 0W-20 for all temps, but I’ve seen more buzz recently about 5W-30 for these trucks, especially in winter.

    Thanks for the help.
