i can get there if i dont screw around and take forever. it seems like time is taking more of a toll on my truck then mileage. things are rusting and drying out pretty quick.

Yeah, the other 2 im referring to were not Vic Shephard’s. One was a White 2008 DCLB 5.7 and the other was a silver 2019 5.7 DC.

i had a coworker see me pull up last night and saw my tundra, asked me what i think about this. I think its awesome, but it wont happen again. i distinctly remember toyota taking shepherds truck and saying they were gonna study things like the seat, the engine and the bed.... well they sure the fuck did didnt they? they researched it into oblivion and now the new trucks have seats breaking, engine failures, and a fiberglass/plastic bed.

disapointed with toyota and probably wont own another after this

They used that analysis to basically see where they overbuilt areas and could cost cut. Which from a business/engineering perspective does make sense. They have no incentive to overbuild a part or component to last 1 million miles. But it sucks for us. I would be very surprised if a 3rd gen made it anywhere that far.

As the previous owner of 4 Volvo 240's, and couple of Volvos. The Volvo says "hold my beer". But seriously I have owned several high mileage Volvos, the Tundra is ALOT easier to live with.

This sort of publicity goes both ways. Now, they can toot the reliability horn left and right, all while taking more shortcuts in making sure life of their vehicles is 'more reasonable'.

"Hmm, this hinge is too good. Make it plastic next time, and less bolts. Make bolts plastic as well! Actually, no. Plastic clips!"

What’s the occupation of the drivers of these high mile/million mile Tundras?

I know a lot of the high mile HD diesel examples are running Hot Shot but, what are these Tundra guys doing?

Same. He works for oil field companies hotshotting parts all over the country. Sounds like a bunch of upper east coast to LA coast runs. Some parts were 2000# plus in the bed. He doesn’t ever mention towing, so all payload in the bed.

I wish they would post his maintenance schedule.

I'm willing to bet that he did 10k oil changes and used what ever oil the dealer sold him.

I'll have that in the video interview. I figure it would be more believable if, you know, you heard it directly from him.

If all goes according to plan, I should have a video out this weekend.

We should throw together some random questions. I’d like to know how often he had to do the brakes, what his trans service intervals looked like and how many miles he got out of a set of tires. Did he notice any reliability differences between the older truck and the current one.. I’m sure there’s more burning questions I have but it’s late and I’m old and tired.
