my OME lift is on the way and I just blew a tire. Now my timeframe for new wheels and tires has been moved up to “immediately”. I’d wanted to do a 285/70/18. Will this size work temporarily until the I get the lift in?

285/65/18 is the largest "no issues" tire for no lift on a gen 2.5 with stock wheels.

I’m installing the lift this week, unfortunately one the stock tires decided that was too long a wait and I’ve gotta replace it asap. I’m hoping I can run an oversized tire for a week or so without much more than some minor rubbing until I install the lift.

Exactly which wheel and tire combo are you planning? The problem isn't the height, it's the width.

Just put 2 larger tires on the rear and leave stock in front. Stay in 2wd.

This actually isn’t a bad idea. For a few days.

Why not just run with the spare on until you get the lift installed?

With stock wheels (60mm) and stock suspension 285/70r18 should be fine outside of removing the front inner liner/mini mud flap. (Example: I did 315/70r17 with a 50mm offset on stock suspension). Contrary to popular opinion lifting the truck alone won’t increase tire size as the tire still needs to fit during up travel unless it’s a mall crawler that will not articulate. Have the tire place do a test fitting with one tire (may want to remove the mud flaps/inner front fender beforehand, can add them back easily later).
