I am trying to finally install a 6-CD changer radio unit from @jImmegart but learned today, to my dismay, it is not a simple swap.

My 2004 DC came with a 1-CD changer radio with no cassette deck. The replacement OEM 6-CD radio with cassette that I'm trying to use is assumedly from a 2003 AC. The harness built into my truck won't plug into the replacement radio.

Does anyone know how I can get this to fit? Can I simply swap out the harness, and if so, what part do I need?

The 6CD likely came as part of a premium system and included a factory amp. Does your 1CD have a factory amp?

Do you have pics of the fronts of the radios too?
Also were the ports on the left side of the single disk radio not used? (from your picture not circled)

One head unit looks like it uses the earlier model in-dash amp, the other looks like it uses the later model not-in-dash amp, if I'm remembering correctly.

Incoming assumptions....if those 2 connectors are the only connectors plugged into your radio, I'll assume the top of your radio part # is 86120-0C100 which matches what Cool Springs lists for your MY SR5.

Assuming those 2 connectors is all you have, the below should be your layout according to an 04 EWD.

    Radio.jpg

The radio you want to use, M2G470062(86120-0C140) matches my 04 DC Limited. The connector you are needing is R14 90980−12038

    JBL connectors.jpg

However, IF some/all my assumptions are correct so far, you're attempting to go from a 6 speaker, Non-JBL, Non-amplified radio to a JBL radio that outputs it's audio, L+-/R+-, to a back wall amplifier....scratching head !

If IFOS, I'll simply grab another cup of :pccoffee:

So, this doesn't answer your question at all, but why not just an aftermarket head unit? Easy peasy install, better sound and more amenities. My $120 pioneer double din unit is miles better than the stock JBL.

I don't believe mine has the amp behind the bezel.

I'll try to get some pics of the fronts uploaded soon. But yes, the ports on the left side of the single disk radio were unused. Nothing in em.

Thank you for all the info and diagram.
This all sounds super complicated. I believe your assumptions are correct. Classic mistake on my part assuming it would be simple. I don't know jack about audio systems or JBL non JBL etc. This seems like a reach but if I swap connectors would it play audio? And, are there non-amplified units or are there just amp-in-dash and amp-somewhere-else units?

Or is this something not worth it given the hassle?

I want to retain the OEM look and I just want a cassette deck to play my Johnny Cash tapes. ;) I don't need better sound or anything, the stock system is fine with me honestly. Hahaha of course this was supposed to be SIMPLE dammit. I had a spare 15 minutes.

    As always you all rock.

Yeah I think from what others are saying you would have to install wiring to run the JBL amp that goes under the back seat. What's your main goal here? Just need a system with a tape deck or what?

Yup, sorry, just noticed you have an '04 and a DC. I don't think they were doing in-dash amps after '03 (maye after '02), and DC had the amp mounted on the back wall of the cab behind the rear driver side seat, IIRC.

I saw the two-connector input in the back and it reminded me of ThatYeti's installation debacle, where his wiring adapter harness had two plugs but his radio only had one plug in the back (the amp is the silver box below the radio, and it has two plugs input, then one plug in/out to the radio)

First thing I'd do is check to make sure you don't have an amp in the expected spot, here. Just look for a silver box with fins and wires going into it like this, yours may appear thinner, depends on whether you have the 'premium' Fujitsu system or the JBL system, which was top of the notch (JBL will have the characteristic orange JBL logo on it somewhere, top or bottom.

You can technically re-pin anything, within reason. But if you don't have an amplified system in it, trying to deal with the wiring from the head unit to the typical amp position, then re-pin... without a donor vehicle and a lot of patience, it could be a pain. It'd probably be easier to find an in-dash amp and try to replicate that setup, potentially re-pinning your two original harnesses to plug into the amp then run the amp's pigtail to your choice of radios. I doubt it'd be too hard, but would require some help from others here and/or wiring diagrams.

Thanks for posting that, I'll respond w/something equally interesting.

Based on those pics, it looks like it may actually be a plug-and-play solution for @DarkMint - check it out, compare these two pics (of course, I'd check EWDs and wire colors first, but I suspect this is plug-and-play)
